Android Kikaider Volume 03: Unveiled Past

Will the return of Jiro provide some stability to Mitsuko’s world? Or are the revelations of the past going to continue to destroy her world? Let’s jump right in!

Episode 08: Blue Moon, Red Dreams

A compilation episode… ugg. If you want to know what happens, maybe just re-read the synopses from the last two reviews.

Episode 09: Friends

With the reunited family as well as a handful of new revelations, Mitsuko decides that the only way to find out if her father is still alive is to find Dark’s base. She believes that the one person who would know where the base is would be her mother. Jiro and Mitsuko head out to a cabin (where Mitsuko once vacationed with her parents many years ago) in search of her mother while leaving Masaru under the care of the detective. Not wanting to be abandoned again, Masaru sneaks away from the detective and heads off after his sister, only to meet up with the twins Kuuya, Kaito and their bear Riku while heading towards the cabin where Jiro and Mitsuko are staying at. Masaru connects easily with the twins and their bear and enjoys their company as they head towards the cabin.

Spending time with Jiro, Mitsuko is able to remember more of her time with her mother and remembers an important piece of information… her mother expressed a longing to return to her hometown someday. Believing this to be a good place to find her, Mitsuko and Jiro make plans to head out tomorrow and return to the cabin for the evening. Just as they arrive, they are informed by the detective’s assistant that Masaru snuck away and they suspect that he is heading their way. As they head out to search, Masaru arrives at the cabin with his new

friends.  Seeing Jiro, the twins reveal that they are also robots under the control of Prof. Gill and have been ordered to destroy Jiro and kill Masaru or Mitsuko if they interfere. Combining with their bear, the twins become Silver Bear, a gigantic bear that can become intangible by dropping parts. The fight is too

much for Masaru to witness as he demands that Jiro not hurt his new friends; but Jiro is forced to destroy his opponents leaving Masaru angry and sad.

Episode 10: Frozen Bonds

Jiro, Mitsuko, and Masaru arrive in their mother’s home town and almost immediately run into her. Masaru has difficulty dealing with the person who is supposed to be his mother, as Mitsuko has been the only mother that he has known in his life. For Mitsuko, dealing with the person who abandoned her brother and herself is difficult and she has difficulty with the realization that her mother was a spy for Prof. Gill and did not in fact love her father at all. After regrouping, Mitsuko decides to confront her mother again, this time pressing for the location of Prof. Gill’s base.

After approaching her a second time, Mitsuko’s mother reveals that the only reason that she agreed to marry Dr. Komyoji was because she was in love with Prof. Gill and he asked her to spy for him. She went on to explain that she had Mitsuko and Masaru because it helped maintain her cover as a happy housewife while she continued her mission. Now pulling a gun on Mitsuko, she informs her that her current mission is to kill her while Jiro watches (as well as Prof. Gill who is interested in seeing what effect this will have on his adversary). Seeing a danger to his “sister”, Jiro jumps in the way deflecting any potential attacks. The emotions are too much for Jiro and he starts to cry… the development of true emotions that upsets Prof. Gill so that he enacts his plan.

At this point, the motorcycle rider appears and opens fire on Jiro. The rider introduces himself as Saburo, Jiro’s younger brother, another creation of Dr. Komyoji created after Jiro. In an action filled battle, Prof. Gill activates another robot - White Scorpion. In an action filled series, Jiro is trying to save his family while avoiding attacks from his “brother” and White Scorpion while still trying to get the necessary information from Mitsuko’s mother.

After the dust settles, White Scorpion is destroyed by Saburo, Mitsuko’s mother gives the location of Gill’s base, Saburo uses a sonic attack on Jiro (like Gill’s) that prevents him from stopping Mitsuko’s mother from committing suicide, and the local police mistakenly believe that Jiro shot and killed Mitsuko’s mother.

This volume of Kikaider has a definite slope to it, garbage to steak in a hour and a half. With such an exciting end to this disc, I’m looking forward to the last disc of this series.

"I hate that guy. He was all like, I'm a douche bag... look at me, I'm Mr. Douche bag."

"He actually said that?"

"No, I think he was ordering potatoes... that douche bag."
