The Big O II Volume 02:Missing Pieces (DVD)
Box Description: Some
days it just doesn’t pay to get out of bed. Roger Smith’s
self-proclaimed greatest nemesis, Beck, is back for revenge again. The
time, however, he’s enlisted the help of a Japanese company to help
him in his quest to destroy Roger. His only hope of rescue? Dorothy.
Negotiator-in-training.
Haunted
by his strange flashbacks, Roger continues his search for answers. And
while Angel can offer none, she does provide a friendly ear.
But
there’s more trouble brewing in this town without Memories. A serial
killer seems to be targeting androids, and the Paradigm Corporation
responds by assigning an uniquely qualified individual to assist Dastun
in this case. Meanwhile, in the underground, a clandestine meeting is
held. But Dorothy’s seen them and must now make her escape. A new
Megadeus has arisen to terrorize the citizens of Paradigm City. In the
midst of a fierce battle, Roger is forced to make a terrible choice.
The next disc of Big O II doesn’t appear to have too many answers… but questions, tons of them!
The
Greatest Villain A nice light episode to start. Nefarious villain Beck leads an escape from prison along with his cell-mates T-Bone and Dove by using a fork and a cable to overload the electrical systems of the prison during a lightning storm… yup, and Beck is left with |

a mighty afro. Quickly laying plans, Beck manages to link up with a Japanese conglomerate who provide him with the technology he needs (while under the cover that he’s going to be the link to the Paradigm Corporation for them) to create a partial robotic duplicate of Roger which can duplicate his speech. With the captured Roger, Beck uses Roger’s watch to summon Big O and sends the robot towards the ocean with the intent that Big O will follow the summons.

Handling
the negotiations for Roger’s release is Dorothy who agrees to bring a
collection of control systems (extra watches). Except that the demands
were a ruse, and Beck tries to double cross Dorothy before she incapacitates him. Not to be outdone, Beck summons his final weapon –
three giant machines: a giant drill, a trailer, and a car that combine to
form a gigantic Megadeus knock-off. While the sentai-show reject is
still waving its weapon in preparation to activate, Roger punches a
collection of holes into the hull with Big O’s vulcan cannon. Freakin’
hilarious.
Eyewitness An android serial killer is stalking Paradigm City and everyone is approaching the case in their own way. Roger is contacted by the victims, and begins investigating some of his own leads in tracking down the culprit. On the police side, Colonel Dastun is partnered up with a new detective – R. Frederick O’Reilly, the first android investigator. The pace picks up once the assassin tries to kill Dorothy in front of Norman (unsuccessfully) – the investigation becomes more intense for the police and personal for Roger. Now a witness, Dorothy is under police protection, as the detectives delve through her memories for clues to the identity of the killer.
The police discover
the first link, all of the victims were related to an oil store and the
police dragnet quickly assembles at the store. Freddy quickly takes down
the assassin, who turns out to be an android, but the station is now
under attack. Roger wastes no time in calling Big O to stop a giant
construction robot (which is under someone’s control) from killing
Norman and Dorothy who are trying desperately to escape from the
station.
Stripes The mysterious episode. Roger spends time with Rosewater (the elder one) trying to make sense of the dreams that he’s been having about groups of bald children, barcodes, and the strange connection to tomatoes. After learning no new information, he spends time talking with Angel with whom he is getting closer to despite their “professional” differences. In the background, a mysterious character is walking the streets of Paradigm City; much like the pied piper, some individuals are being drawn to her as she hums a song.
The song is apparently undetectable to everyone except a select few except Dorothy, who also ends up following the song to its’ source. Finding a collection of spies, Dorothy spies on the group which is also joined by Angel. The leader, calling herself Agent 12, begins interrogating Angel and asking why she has not been responding to orders. Watching this, Dorothy is discovered by Alan (Rosewater’s assassin and general hands-on guy) who is also apparently an agent for this force. Alan begins attacking Dorothy with his pistol, and he manages to shoot her twice and leave her incapacitated as he begins to close in on her.
Meanwhile, Roger has been called to stop another attack on the city from a Megadeus – this one is under the control of this organization. Despite taking control of the fight, Roger is unable to finish off his opponent as Big O controls freeze. As he sits in his Megadeus, Roger finally discovers the truth about his dreams – but we are kept unaware as his opponent presses the opening and attacks the Big O… and the episode ends.
An excellent cliffhanger and assortment of episodes this time out. Now I can’t wait for the next disc!
