Galaxy Angel Z Volume 2: Galaxy-Size Combo (DVD)
After
some production issues with the second volume of Galaxy Angel Z,
it finally arrives (thank God, my heart was aching over missing this
show). As this show starts to develop we start to see more developed
episodes where the writers don’t necessarily stick with the
straight-up comedy and weirdness that is the hallmark of this series up
to this point.
Episode
07: Deep Fried Egg Rolls of Love A view into Commander Volcott’s past, where as a rookie he served as a pilot for the Fairy Brigade, a team much like the current Angel Brigade. So much like the team, they look identically like every member of the current team but with slightly different names. Volcott is attending a luncheon reunion with his old team, most of which fail to resemble their old selves rather miserably. The entire luncheon is missing only one member, Sylfie (who looks suspiciously like Milfuelle), whom the Commander recounts rather fondly.
The
luncheon goes well, with the Fairy Brigade dominating the food and
leaving Volcott to reminisce about Sylfie and his younger days.
Highlight of the episode: (tie) seeing what the Angel Brigade members
will look in 30 years / learning that the Commander’s first name is
actually Huey.
Episode 08: Wedding Cake Combine Special The
Angel Brigade has been issued new equipment to combat the large enemies
that are due to arrive in system. The new vehicles that they’ve been
issued are not just any Vespas, they combine to form a giant robot that
is powered by the team’s faith and support of each other. However,
with Ranpha off getting married to the CEO of a major corporation who is
going to be the final pilot? After trying to make do with the Commander
and Normad (to disastrous results) the team may have to beg Ranpha to
return. Especially when they find out that failure to get the equipment
to work will result in a pay cut. Highlight of the episode: the
smoldering pilots in the water after their failed deployment.
Episode 09: GA Analytic Tea-Ceremony The success that the Galaxy Brigade has been having has not gone unnoticed, and command attributes the team’s success to the leadership in place. Believing that there is something to be learned from Volcott’s successes, two up and coming command officers come for a visit to learn his techniques. Imagine their surprise to learn that the members of the Galaxy Brigade may be the perpetrators in a series of major robberies of the “Dream Foundation” and the |

Commander isn’t going to do
anything. Although the company has been suspected of wrong-doing, there
isn’t going to be any sort of easy explanation for this. Highlight of
the episode: Milfuelle using martial arts during a fight sequence.
Episode 10: Served To Taste Revenge Lunch The Angel Brigade isn’t all about work… well it’s rarely about work, it’s more about goofing around. When the girls are trying to watch the final episode of a soap |

opera and the reception keeps breaking up, they
send Vanilla outside to fix the receiver in the middle of a magnetic
storm. Lightning strikes the receiver while she works on it and her suit
no longer registers life signs. Angered by sight of a prone Vanilla,
Normad goes on a rampage on the station and takes all of the members of
the Angel Brigade hostage. How will the team be able to calm down Normad
and resolve this situation. Highlight of the episode: Normad using
tentacles to torture Forte… by destroying her pistol (not whatever you
thought … eww)
Episode 11: Revolving Sushi To The Hereafter A
new piece of Lost Technology has been stored on the station and it
caused all of the people in the station to change bodies. With this
mayhem, the team must still function as a military organization and
still has missions to perform. Despite the personality changes, the team
is actually better and operating more efficiently than usual. What’s
going to happen once the switches start to happen more often? Is Normad
the only person disturbed by the constant changes? Highlight of the
episode: (tie) Forte waking up in Milfeulle’s body and exclaiming that
she’s been trapped in an underdeveloped body / Ranpha asking the
Commander about the switches, and his indifference in being trapped in a
little girl’s body.
Episode 12: Steel Jambalaya A
battle robot codenamed “Silent Soldier” has gone on rampage after
escaping a research installation, and command orders the Commander and
Forte to try and engage it. The reason being, they are the only active
personnel to defeat the robot series before. Forte is not looking
forward to the engagement, as she was barely able to survive the last
encounter with Silent Soldier. The entire episode is dead serious and
features some decent action not usually shown in the series. Highlight
of episode: a scene with a younger Forte who looks a lot more like a
soldier than she does now.
This
disc of Galaxy Angel Z really shows a good diversity of episode
types, the dramatic/comedies of Episodes 7 & 10, the deadpan action
of Episode 12, and the usual wackiness of Episodes 8, 9, & 11. An
excellent disc.
