Gundam Seed Volume 10: Day of Destiny (DVD)
A
fierce three-sided battle begins outside the Mendel colony. While the
Archangel takes on the Dominion, the Eternal and Kusanagi attempt to
fight off Le Creuset’s ships. In the midst of this chaos, Le Creuset
sets Flay adrift in a lifepod, entrusting her with what he claims is the
key that will end the war.
Two months later, the Alliance has driven ZAFT off the Earth and gathered a massive space fleet at its lunar base. The time to strike back has come! But ZAFT is not without weapons of its own. At Patrick Zala’s order, the devastating gamma-ray laser known as GENESIS strikes the Alliance space fleet, wiping out half of its vessels.
The Archangel, Eternal, and Kusanagi fight to prevent both sides from using their weapons of annihilation. And Rau Le Creuset, at the controls of his own new Gundam, enters the fray to ensure that the war builds to a crescendo of destruction. Three lone ships and a handful of people are all that stand between humanity and total destruction.
With
a good ‘ole surrounding, the crews of the three ships are going to
have an interesting fight to extricate themselves from this battle. Poor
Flay isn’t in a good place either, adrift in a small lifepod in the
midst of a battlefield. It’s going to be an interesting last arc for
the series, so let’s go!
Episode 46: A Place For The Soul The battle quickly becomes pitched as Le Creuset’s forces target the Kusanagi so the Eternal joins to aid and the Archangel tries to hold off the Dominion alone. With all of these suits flying around the fatalities are numerous and the carriers are able to brought into range. With the immense destruction, Flay becomes terrified and begins screaming for help into the open communication channels. This quickly draws the attention of both sides, and so Commander Natarle orders one of her suits into position to pick her up. The recent events still weigh heavily on Kira’s heart and once he hears that Flay is in trouble, he rushes headlong into enemy forces to try and save her against superior numbers. Athrun is able to extricate his friend before he gets into trouble. Now with an important VIP on board, especially with the information that she’s carrying, the Dominion signals retreat and withdraws from the battle. The changed battle allows the three carriers to escape for the time being. On board the Dominion, the information that was given to Flay is now investigated and it is a copy of the information on the Neutron Jammer Cancellers so the Earth forces will now have the ability to field new weapons against the ZAFT.
The stress of Le Creuset’s revelation is too much to bear for Kira and once he touches down on the Archangel, he collapses and is brought to the infirmary. His friends quickly surround him for support, but he finds himself too torn over his perceived failure to be able to tell his sister the new information that he’s discovered.

Episode 47: The Nightmare Reborn Following the lead of the Director, the Earth council takes the new information on Neutron Jammer Cancellers and agrees on using them towards re-activating their nuclear warheads. Instead of using the information to lessen the power deficit of Earth, the council heads towards and endgame with the ZAFT forces, or in this case, a genocide of the coordinators. The opening battles allow for decisive victories where |

the main fleet engages the defending forces, then the assault forces bombards the enemy position with nuclear warheads. The ZAFT have decided that the new weapon escalation calls for desperate measures, and as such, Zala orders GENESIS to be activated.
As the Earth forces begin to press their decisive victories forward, they quickly reach enemy territory and get to bombard a PLANT instead of a military position. The Dominion leads the vanguard against the coordinators and prepare to wipe out the enemy forces with an overwhelming bombarding. On board, Flay remains on the flagship looking forward to meeting up with Kira and having a chance to speak with him. As the fleet move to engage the ZAFT, the bombardment looks to reach the PLANT but Freedom and Justice arrive with Meteor units and are able to intercept all of the incoming missiles. Lacus asks both sides to stand down and stop the escalation of fighting that has been occurring, but Zala and Le Creuset use this moment to activate the GENESIS but not before ordering all of their forces out of the target zone.
Episode 48: Day Of Wrath The
opening salvo of Genesis is most effective, about half of the Earth
Fleet is immediately decimated and the other half is now in a desperate
retreat. The ZAFT forces are quick to press their advantage and are
moving to wipe out the remaining fleet in one shot. Kira thinks
otherwise and he quickly steps in to counter-attack anyone attacking the
fleeing soldiers. With the command structure in disarray, the Dominion
quickly becomes one of the new flagships and tries to re-organize the
remaining fleet resources. Despite their losses, the threat of GENESIS
being used against Earth forces their worst-case scenario – they are
going to have to rush head-long towards the weapon and try to knock it
out. So a desperate Earth Fleet quickly reorganizes, rearms and prepares
for a final rush at the GENESIS weapon.
The
three carriers decide that they are going to have to stop both sides
from using their doomsday weapons against each other – some are going
to search for the Nuclear weapons of the Earth Fleet, while the rest are
going to try and stop the GENESIS weapon. So the rogue group is going to
enter the fray at full strength, all available Gundams are launching and
even Cagalli is going to fight in her new Rouge Strike. For the ZAFT
forces, they are quickly preparing to re-fire the weapon and their next
target is the moon base which they hope will break the resolve of the
Earth forces, but if they do not, they intend to fire at Earth. To aid
in the defense, Rau Le Creuset launches in his personal Gundam,
Providence. The episode ends with the GENESIS firing.
Episode 49: The Final Light A series of small battles are simultaneously occurring. With the latest salvo of the GENESIS, the forward base on the moon has left the Fleet without many reserves and the remnants of the task force are pretty much alone. The Director of Earth Fleet orders a reprisal attack on the PLANTs using nuclear warheads, and so the Dominion sends out the Peacemaker force to launch the missiles. The Dominion is going to guard the nuclear stockpile ship personally, but the Archangel tries to destroy it so that one of the two major weapons can be removed from the fight. While the suits battle around the assault on the PLANTs, the Archangel moves against the Dominion. The Director’s decision to launch the attack against the PLANTs instead of the GENESIS leads to a minor mutiny as the Director pulls his sidearm to retain control of the carrier. Rau Le Creuset and Mu La Flaga are involved in a pitched fight, and Mu is on the losing side against the superior new machine. Yzak tries to prevent the nuclear weapons from reaching the PLANTs and is finally able to destroy one of Earth’s new suits. With the nuclear attack stopped, all of the suits begin to return to their base ships for refueling and rearming.
Once the Archangel is able to cripple the Dominion, Commander Natarle orders an evacuation of the ship while the Director is insistent on continuing the attack against the Archangel. When the Director reaches to attack Flay, the Commander grapples with him and locks down the bridge once all of the bridge crew is able to escape. With the Dominion adrift, the Director is able to get a last shot off at the Archangel, and at their close proximity it will probably destroy the ship, but Mu moves Strike into the way and is able to stop the last gasp from hitting the carrier. In angry retaliation, the Archangel fires and destroys the Dominion.
Episode 50: To An Endless Future The death of Mu in saving the Archangel has left most people drained, but the threats haven’t disappeared. Le Creuset moves in on the damaged Archangel and tries to sink her, but Kira senses trouble and begins fighting against him. The battle is quickly dangerous as the remaining Earth suits also join in on the carnage and try to attack the carrier. Yzak lends a hand against the Earth suits and is able to blow up a second one, but not before seriously damaging his own suit. Flay and the survivors of the Dominion are in a tenable situation trying to ferry over to the Archangel in the middle of this firefight. Kira is losing the fight badly but Le Creuset cannot gain the upper hand, so instead he turns his anger on the shuttle and kills Flay and the Dominion survivors. A traumatized Kira is now suffering over his inability to save Flay and instead rushes after Le Creuset to prevent him from hurting more people.
The Kusanagi and the Eternal have now moved into range to attack the GENESIS but all external attacks are ineffective against the giant weapon. As such, Athrun and Cagalli are going to head into the weapon’s control room and try and gain control from there. Le Creuset tries to stop them, but he is now going to have to fight a furious Kira who wants to stop him at all costs.
There’s more, but I’ll leave it at that. This final disc of Gundam Seed certainly was chock-full of space battles and explosions and didn’t disappoint with some nice plot swerves that kept things interesting up to the end. An excellent disc and satisfying ending to the series.
