Gundam Seed Volume 06: Momentary Silence (DVD)
The
damaged Archangel is safely berthed in Orb, where it is undergoing
repairs. Kira must assist Orb with developing as OS for Orb’s mobile
suits. Meanwhile, the Zala team has infiltrated Orb to search for the
Archangel. The rest of Kira’s friends, however, are reunited with
their families. Kira, meanwhile, avoids his parents, and then has an
unpleasant encounter with Flay.
The time comes for the Archangel to resume its journey to Alaska, but they are attacked as soon as they reach open water. But the battle gets very personal as someone on each side falls in battle. Finally, enraged, Kira and Athrun battle to the bitter end-with devastating results.
The weary crew of the Archangel has finally caught a break and has been allowed to berth and repair their ship at the independent nation of Orb. With political entanglements being what they are, the ZAFT forces will not attack Orb to flush out the Archangel, but they cannot remain in Orb forever.
Episode 26: Moment This episode would have been the last episode for Season 1, so it’s a recap episode that highlights all of the major plot points up to this point. It mostly focuses on Kira and the people around him, but it does spend a reasonable amount of time on the characters of Cagalli, Athrun, and Flay (well at least how she’s a manipulative bitch by making sure to keep Kira fighting by any means necessary).

Episode 27: Endless Rondo Much like the previous episode, we are treated to another recap episode, but instead of focusing on the story it is told from the perspective of a tactician who is analyzing the development of Kira’s abilities and tactical decisions as each battle progresses with Strike Gundam. At the end of the recap, we finally get some new story with the analyst meeting with Kira and introducing his to their own project: the |

M-1 Astray Gundams. Cagalli checks over the project and states that it hasn’t improved much since she has left, as the trained pilots cannot move the Gundam units with more than basic motion and would be a liability in actual combat. And so, Kira is asked to help upgrade their control systems in exchange for repairing Strike Gundam.
Episode 28: Kira The crew of the Archangel gets a nice change of pace as they are granted a chance to spend time with their families at the Naval Base; although they aren’t able to enter the city, they do get a nice distraction from the constant fighting and repairs that they’ve been doing constantly. Unfortunately for Flay, she has no family to spend time with and as such is spending her time trying to remain distracted with her duties but when she comes across Kira who is working instead of visiting with his parents she becomes enraged. She accuses Kira of taking pity on her and erupts on him until he states that he cannot take their relationship any more and she storms out on him. Back at the testing facility, the upgrades completed by Kira have significantly improved the M-1 Gundams and now repairs on Strike are commencing. While working, Birdy (his mechanical bird) flies off and goes to Athrun who is spying around the facility with his team. Through the fence, Athrun and Kira meet eyes and Athrun returns Birdy to him.
Episode 29: The Turning Point Finally the time has come for the Archangel to deploy and leave the Nation of Orb, but Cagalli won’t be joining them as her father has convinced her that fighting isn’t the only way to prevent further atrocities of war. Orb ships escort the Archangel out of port to try and mask her escape, but it doesn’t matter, with Athrun having seen Kira, he knows where they are and his forces quickly converge on the escaping carrier. All four Gundams are deployed against Strike, the 2 Skygraspers, and the carrier. But with a few new tactics and a full armament, the Archangel will fight aggressively. In the course of battle, Strike is able to disarray the enemy forces and while he tries to convince Athrun to stop the senseless violence his subordinate Nicol jumps into the fray and is accidentally killed by Kira.
Episode 30: Flashing Blades The
death of Nicol has left the ZAFT forces chomping at the bit, and they
want revenge badly. All three remaining pilots want to kill Kira and
Strike Gundam badly. Back on the Archangel, Kira laments the unnecessary
death of Nicol and is inconsolable over it. Not letting their prey any
time to breathe, the ZAFT forces launch a quick 2nd attack
and Kira is forced back into action. The rejoined battle is brutal and
Kira is unable to slow down the attackers who are more aggressive and
blood thirsty this time. After some serious damage occurs on the
Archangel, Tolle decides to leave his post and join the battle in his
Skygrasper. During the fighting, Kira is able to cripple one of the
Gundams, but the Archangel is forced down from it’s damage but not
before taking another of the Gundams down as well. In the remaining
battle, Kira and Athrun continue in a pitched fight which only
intensifies when Athrun shoots down Tolle when he tries to spring Kira.
Now also blood thirsty, Kira dives at his adversary with no concern for
his well being. As a last ditch effort, Athrun attaches his Gundam to
the damaged Strike and activates the self-destruct system before
ejecting. The explosion consumes Strike, and the episode ends.
This disc of Gundam Seed is more like 3 episodes and a long recap of the series. It is a good stepping on point for people, but those who have been actively following the series will be better off to chapter skip those 2 episodes. Much like Gundam Wing, Gundam Seed has degraded from serious fleet action into a series of one-on-one fights between hated opponents – while it is more dramatic, I suppose, but not as satisfying for myself.
