Infinite Ryvius Volume 04: Change of Command (DVD)

The truth is that Airs Blue attempted to take the Vital Guarder for himself and abandon everyone on the Ryvius during the battle with the Blue Impulse. The students riot and storm the bridge. Airs Blue is forced into hiding while his comrades are beaten and imprisoned. Even though Juli is chosen as the new leader, things do not change for the better as the points system is kept. Tensions continue to rise as rescue seems so distant. A tragic event occurs aboard the Ryvius during an attack by the Crimson Dicastia.

Disc 3 of Infinite Ryvius left us in the middle of an intense battle between the Vital Guarder and the Blue Impulse. Taking direct control of the Vital Guarder, Blue seems to have some hidden agenda at this point but what it is, is anyone’s guess.

Episode 15: Swept Away

The drill shaped Blue Impulse begins attacking the Vital Guarder directly by ramming it; however, Yuki is able to deflect the brunt of the 2nd attack and throw the Blue Impulse by it while the Vital Guarder hides in the Geduld. On the Ryvius, the crew continues to head towards Hyperion but is unaware of where the Vital Guarder is. On board the Vital Guarder, Blue orders abandoning the Ryvius and head towards

Hyperion – although the crew tries to confront him, he is the only person with a gun and is able to make the order stand. However, the whole argument reaches the Ryvius (through the open comm) and Heigel decides to make the most of it by transmitting it to the general populace.

The crew of the Blue Impulse discovers the Ryvius’ intended destination (from their original heading) and decides to lay in wait for

the ship and destroys the moon as an added measure. Once the Ryvius appears, the Blue Impulse starts firing pieces of Hyperion at the ship but the ship’s shields hold despite having the main cannon torn off. Back on the Vital Guarder, Blue becomes unstable once he sees his home destroyed and the crew runs out to help the Ryvius. Picking up the main gun, the Blue Impulse is destroyed as the Vital Guarder shoots out the main drill. With the battle over, the general populace now revolts seeking blood – the remnants of Zwei quickly distance themselves from Blue’s team and even allow those members to be singled out and chased.

Episode 16: Deforming World

With the “purge” happening quickly, all of the members of Blue’s team have been singled out, beaten, and then imprisoned for their alliance with Blue. As the Vital Guarder links up with the Ryvius, Lucson leads a group of rebels to go capture Blue, except he still has a pistol and manages to escape. The mysterious girl makes another appearance, as her unconscious form is recovered by Nicks and he brings her to Aoi to help her recover. Once she awakens, she immediately leaves but now communicates with the people around her (unlike before).

Needing leadership, Juli is voted to become the captain of Ryvius once again and she immediately begins by keeping the point system in place and asking Kouji to become her commander on board the Vital Guarder.

Episode 17: Free Order

The aftermath of the revolt continues as the general populace still is angry with the ship’s command at having unlimited points. This has started to develop in some strange new ways – open hostility towards the command staff and in other cases, hostility towards significant others who are part of the command staff. (Poor Kozue!) Besides the usual cases of theft, a new gambling group has developed.

Kouji’s new position on board the Vital Guarder isn’t going particularly well as he continues to openly battle with his brother. Adding to his misery, Kouji is also beaten unconscious by unidentified assailants while working alone. Aoi keeps a vigil over unconscious Kouji.

When Kouji returns to his position, he ends up in a fist fight with his brother as a new ship appears in the Ryvius’ path. Crimson Dicastia is the new opponent – a ship that uses tendrils to manipulate the tides and gravity of the Geduld to batter its’ opponents.

Episode 18: Incomprehensible

The Crimson Dicastia has now trapped the Ryvius in a bubble and is battering the hull with high gravity fields while the main ship moves in to shell with its cannons. The crew prepares to deploy the Vital Guarder, but once it finally deployed, a shot from the Crimson Dicastia pierces the Ryvius’ hull and breaches one of the outer sections. For the first time in combat, people onboard were killed and that effects the Vital Guarder crew, especially Yuki and Ikumi. The deaths cause even more of an unbearable situation for Juli who is unsure of what to do, and is unable to command the crew.

Faced with this indecision, Yuki opens all comm channels and after berating the general populace he proceeds to tell everyone that he is done accepting commands from everyone else. Breaking away with the Vital Guarder, he uses a gravitational field to break open the gravity field surrounding the ships and then fires the main cannons on the opposing ship destroying its Guarder.

After this disc, Infinite Ryvius has become a science-fiction blending of Lord of the Flies and the Simpsons episode where Homer becomes a missionary to the South Pacific and introduces culture which destroys the island. At this point, I’m liking the development of some of the characters but I find myself openly hating some of the main characters even though they aren’t villains.
