KanedaBeing recognized as the film that helped anime gain a strong foothold in North America, Akira is the one film that just about anyone, even those who don't watch a lot of anime, has heard of. What better series to have a bunch of action figures based on? One of the most interesting to be made is that of Kaneda. Bare in mind that it is definitely more of a figurine than anything else, due to the lack of articulation points. It is a very nice display piece though that looks right at home just about anywhere, except for maybe beside the Ming vase and Tiffany lamp.

Kaneda is all decked out in his red slacks and jacket with a big-huge gun slung over his shoulder, all prettied up for a night on the town. Most of the detail is found in his jacket where the collar flips out a bit and the straps for his packs and weaponry are slung over him. From the waist down the detail comes from the folds and rumples in the pants that, while not overly embellished, look pretty nice. Even that creepy look on Kaneda's face has remained intact. Adding some nice touches are the assortment of accessories he comes with: goggles, his carrying case, and a gigantic gun.
When it comes to playability Kaneda cannot really be graded. From the lack of articulation |

points it's obvious that the intention of the figure was to be a decoration, not a multi-facetted, kung-fu gripped, spring loaded Goliath. There are no points whatsoever that even remotely hint that he can make any action-packed movements. Akira has long since earned its legendary status in the halls of anime history. Fans of the film cannot go wrong with this figure. He makes a nice decorative memento. Reviewed by Mr. Nash
