Kaze no Yojimbo Volume 06: Unveiled Mystery

Box Description: George fights back with his keen instinct!

For the first time since he’s arrived at Kimujuku, George feels it’s time for him to leave. However, the story doesn’t quite end the way he expected. Ginzame’s kidnapping of Miyuki forces George to turn around and go on a new mission to rescue her. Wanting to pay for her past sins, Sanae also attempts a rescue in her own way. Nevertheless, George’s search for his missing brother is truly coming to an end.

Kaze no Yojimbo has been an entertaining series up to this point with its layered mysteries that are always being slowly revealed to the watcher. It makes for a very different paced type of show, some will not appreciate it, but it is very entertaining to those appreciative of its’ style.

Episode 22: Tanokura Manor Ablaze

With George missing, all sides are running scared and everyone is searching for him. Meanwhile, Rin decides to make a serious move against the Tanokuras, he sets their home ablaze and follows as the returning Mr. Tanokura searches the home for his daughter, Miyuki. When he isolates them, he once again asks Tanokura about the missing gold but he claims to have no knowledge about it, and so Rin threatens the life of his daughter and ends up shooting Tanokura in the arm. Outside, George sees the trouble and rushes onto the scene only to see Rin holding Miyuki hostage and trying to run away. Giving chase, George continues to put pressure on Rin and

apparently has him trapped on the roof of the burning house. Just as it looks as though George can stop him, Rin’s backup arrives in the form of a helicopter that allows him and his prone captive to escape.

Episode 23: The Great Exemption

In the aftermath of last night, Tanokura is pacing around ordering his men and trying everything he can think of to try and

find his daughter without arousing suspicion of the kidnappers. Despite the obvious criminal implications, George has Sanae call the police and get them involved in the investigation – manpower aside, they do have some capabilities that the organization does not. Rin and his compatriots continue to solidify their base by tying down any and all lose ends, even his own brother by putting pressure on him to make sure that he stays in line. Sanae is not content to sit and wait for action, she searches out Rin’s brother and becomes involved in the caper by posing as a possible assailant.

George on the other hand continues to try and figure out where Miyuki could be stashed, and when he talks with Racoon, he comes to the conclusion on his own. Leading the police to the site, Miyuki is being held on board a train-car and when the police move in to storm it, they train turns on and pulls away but not before George rushes along on his bike after them.

Episode 24: The Close Call

The train-chase has started and it’s only getting more intense by the second. George is racing behind the action trying to keep pace with the train on his bike, Sanae is on board the train trying to come up with some semblance of a plan, and Kinbara is trying to prevent any information from leaking. Kinbara is leading a direct assault against the train in none other than an Apache helicopter (how on Earth, he got a hold of that, I don’t know). Rin is on top of the train with a  machine-gun and is firing back with armor piercing rounds to prevent the Apache from derailing the train. The Apache must peel off from the suppression fire, but will get another shot at the train up the track after a tunnel. On board, Sanae has put her plan into action, she’s disarmed one of the guards and is holding all of the goons at gun point while Miyuki has been untied. Having now hog-tied all of the goons, the problem is now, how to stop the train?

George finally manages to catch up to the train and get aboard and runs into Miyuki who is in the same room with all of the tied-up men. She tells George that Sanae has gone to the front of the train to try and stop it, and when he gets there, he witnesses Rin shooting her. After forcing the leaders back, George is able to pull Sanae to safety and he goes and attacks the leaders to try and stop the train himself. How is George going to save the day and himself? I won’t say.

Episode 25: So Long

The final episode gives us all the answers – who took the gold, what happened to George’s brother, who the masterminds were, and most importantly, who the triggermen were. A series of surprising follow the leads until the final revelations which end in a very Fargo-esque way.

This last disc of Kaze no Yojimbo was very hard to pause to write, I was so caught up in the story that I couldn’t bring myself to stop watching for a moment (which made the whole rewrite at the end a REAL blast). Excellent series, definitely worth picking up for those film noir types.
