Overman King Gainer Exodus 4 (DVD)
The
Exodus to Yapan has found a new foe in the form of Kashmir Valle, the
flamboyant and ruthless Operations Vice President of the Siberian
Railway. His timetables are a thing of beauty, each train schedule
intersecting with the crystalline perfection of a diamond. When the
Exodus threatens to create a flaw in his perfect diagram, Kashmir uses a
series of powerful Psycho-Overmen to wage psychological warfare against
Gain, Gainer, and their comrades. And as this sinister new enemy preys
on their inner weaknesses – their thoughts, their hopes, their fears
– the hidden secrets of the Exodus defenders will be forced into the
cold light of day.
Wow, now I’m even getting promotional copies of stuff that I’m watching on my own. Sigh… now even watching anime is a job. But not to worry, I’m ready for more work. Overman King Gainer is the story of a post-apocalyptic travel across the open tundra of an entire city. The world has suffered greatly from the abuses of man, and everyone has moved north to allow the planet to heal, but the populace grows upset and is starting to move back on their own. This city is traveling from the Siberian tundra to the land of Yapan (that doesn’t sound familiar at all) while being harassed all the way, by the Siberian Railway which own the monopoly on the only shipping, and would stand to lose a great deal of money if some of their customers left without needing their services ever again.
Episode 15: Between Dia and Magma Gainer is going to go on a date in the nearby village of Gangalan and meet with a girl that he’s been talking to on-line. He doesn’t know that the girl in question is actually Cynthia and he’s actually fought her before. The concept of Gainer going out to see a girl doesn’t sit too well with everyone, and both Adette and Sara are going to spy on him. Cynthia has set up a game for their first meeting: he’s got to solve three riddles before he can find her, but there’s a time limit and she will leave if he doesn’t succeed in time. Meanwhile, Kashmir Valle has come up with a new plan to attack the Yapan Exodus – he’s using an Overman (Antlion) capable of tunneling to weaken the ground underneath which should stop the train dead in its’ tracks. As soon as one of the ships falls into the holes, Gainer is called back to base to head out in his Overman… so the date is ruined. Heading into the underground, he battles with Antlion but the opponent decides to instead attack the city’s base. Flooding the infrastructure with magma, the city is now uninhabitable and the Yapan Exodus is forced to open their doors to a flood of new refugees.
Episode 16: Fight On, Adette Troop! Adette is a soldier through-and-through, and no matter how much she tries to live a normal life, she still has tendencies to try and control a situation through force. So when they learn of a secret Siberian Railroad base filled with Silhouette Engines and another Overman (Mexbrute), she steals Gainer’s and heads with her troop to the site. Her “troop” are actually a group of civilians from Gangalan who respect her and wanted to form a team like her squad. In the secret base, Ashurum Boone is being held prisoner but he’s able to escape quite easily after charming his way past the lone female (Jaboli) of the Gauli Squad. To recapture him, Cynthia heads out in her |

own suit to run him down. In the base, the sneak attack has worked quite effectively and the entire troop is making off with Silhouette Engines, but Adette isn’t satisfied, she wants the Overman. Except, Mexbrute is a master of illusions and is able to make shadow duplicates of itself. And so, finding out which one is the true one is near impossible. Once Gainer returns to help out, he figures out the location of Mexbrute and wipes it out.

Episode 17: The World Without Lies The Yapan Exodus is under a completely different type of attack now, a psychological one. Kashmir Valle uses the Overman Planeta to project everyone’s inner thoughts to the people nearby. With the tensions of the Exodus being naturally high after the increase in refugees, everyone hearing the internalized gripes and groans causes decorum to break down fast. There is now open fighting amongst the two groups, and even the hidden thoughts of soldiers are being bared – including the revelation that Gainer’s parents may have been killed to prevent the Exodus from being derailed. Gain and Gainer head out to battle it, any attacks attempted are rendered useless as Valle knows what the attack will be even before they start it. So Gainer comes up with a counter – he admits his true feelings for Sara as loud as he can which comes across quite powerfully to Planeta, and so Valle turns off his Overskill to stop hearing it… and is promptly defeated. Except the power of the transmission reaches all the way back to the Exodus, and so everyone hears his words including Sara (who is really embarrassed).
Episode 18: Fragility of Blade The latest Overman Detheneta is another psychological attacker, this time attacking people’s sense of security and making them worried about random things. For Gauli Leader, this is especially traumatic as he struggles with what he’s done up to this point for the Exodus and how many people he’s killed to make sure it succeeds. He ends up taking the Gotchko and heading out on his own. Using the Detheneta’s Overskill, Valle hypnotizes Leader and has him carry a bomb back towards the Exodus. Leader struggles with what he’s done, but is unable to do anything more than pilot the Gotchko back. He begs Gainer to kill him before he blows up the transports, and even tries to make him angry by admitting that he killed his parents. Although Gainer wants to kill him, he won’t and instead Sara pulls Leader from the suit so Gain can blow up his Gotchko from a safe distance. Taking Leader back to the base, everyone is glad to see him safe but Gain has a bone to pick with him. He taps him lightly for making everyone worry, punches him for losing his Gotchko, and floors him for Gainer.
Overman King Gainer is the kind of series whose appearance (bright animation style) and episodes (goofy episodes and bite size arcs) belie the story behind it all. Because of that, most will dismiss it quickly because almost each episode is self-contained.
