Please Teacher Volume 2:

Meet the In-Laws (DVD)

please teacher          please teacher

With the first disc being a feeling out period, where you start to get an idea of where each character is coming from, the series flow becomes more tangible. At this point the relationship between Kei and Mizuho becomes the focus, with each aspect of their lives or job having some effect on it.

Episode 5: For That Teacher, I …

Kei and Mizuho are on summer break and they decide to spend their break together on a honeymoon that they were denied (keep an eye out for the delusional little girl dragging around the golden retriever… she’s hilarious), but as always, things don’t go like they’ve planned. Mr. Sanada (the technology professor) was testing out a man-powered glider that he constructed and brought along Matagu, Hyosuke, Ichigo, Kaede, and Koishi to help, but they unfortunately saw Mizuho. Kei jumps away before they see him, and runs into Ichigo while he was hiding. To make things worse, the students decide to have Kei tag along with them while Mizuho runs off by herself. After the lovers meet up again at their hotel, they decide to go out and once again run into the group with Sanada (all of whom are staying at that hotel).

The kids bring Kei along with them to the pool, while Mizuho brings Sanada along with her for a dinner – but not before she whispers to Kei to meet her in their room later (while slipping him the room key). After playing around in the pool for a while, the kids converge in a room and play card games all night. With the presence of some booze that Hyosuke was able to get, the players slowly become altered. After winning a series of games, Koishi declares that she can

make anyone do something, so she makes Kei leave the hotel with her to visit a nearby convenience store for some snacks. The walk was chosen to give her the time alone with Kei to declare her love to him. In the meantime, Kaede becomes tired and heads back to her room and as Hyosuke was about to leave to use the bathroom, Ichigo gives him a room key so he can return (except it’s a key to the girl’s room). As he returns to the room, he is accosted by a sleepwalking Kaede who thinks that Hyosuke is appearing in her dream. Matagu also picked up a keycard, but it was the one that Mizuho gave Kei, and he shows up half asleep in Kei’s room and accidentally jumps into bed with Mizuho who at this point is furious at Kei for taking so long. Upon seeing someone besides Kei entering bed, she screams and runs out into the hallway.

Outside the hotel, Koishi is about to confess to Kei when the moment is broken by two screams – that of Mizuho and Hyosuke. Sensing trouble for his wife, Kei runs at a dead sprint up towards his room only to find a scared Mizuho crawling towards him; while waiting outside the hotel for things to calm down, Mizuho and Kei are surprised by the little girl who sees them about to kiss. At this sight, she claims her hatred of the surprised Kei at the way he hurt her heart; and at this point the stunned Kei is now blind-sided by Mizuho who accuses him of trying to pick up girls. When he professes his innocence because he was with Koishi, she goes ballistic.

Episode 6: Let’s Begin After We Start

To the best episode! Kei and Mizuho now have guests, namely Mizuho’s mother Hatsuho and sister Maho; but they didn’t know this until Kei snuggles with who he thinks is Mizuho on the veranda… until he realizes that this couldn’t be Mizuho because she’s standing in the front door. Her mother looks identical to her daughter, except for slightly darker hair and a mole on her right cheek (and she doesn’t wear glasses), and Maho is a cute firebrand with black hair and a disposition to match… well at least towards Kei. Between Hatsuho’s attempt to come on to Kei, and Maho’s repeated attempts to kill the man who married her beautiful sister (she’s been using Miruru, a female control system like Marie to attack), Kei is skating on thin ice.

With discretion being the larger part of valor, Kei decides to go for a walk and think things over and runs into the guys without Hyosuke. They tell Kei that he hasn’t come out of his home in a few days and is acting strange, Kei agrees to go visit him soon, and upon seeing Maho looking for him he changes his mind and go to visit Hyosuke immediately. After talking with Hyosuke, Kei discovers that Hyosuke did have sex with Kaede that night at the beach and is feeling guilty because he doesn’t love her at that moment. After going home and being consequently kicked out of the house by Maho, he sets up a plan to have Hyosuke talk with Kaede. It turns out that Hyosuke was afraid of a relationship with Kaede because he believed that he wouldn’t stay in the town after graduation and wouldn’t be able to stay with Kaede. He planned to stop the relationship before it even started. After talking with Kaede, they both decided that they wanted to be with each other now and decided to have a relationship.

As a part of the deal between Kei and Hyosuke, Kei agreed to tell the girl that he loves his feelings. Thanks to the prodding of Hyosuke, Kei finally tells Mizuho “I Love You”.

Episode 7: Don’t Cry Teacher

Another strong episode. Starting with the public knowledge that Hyosuke and Kaede are now in a relationship, this episode spends the majority of its time in exploring people’s standing. With the continuing battles at home, Kei heads over to school for some alone time and ends up helping Mr. Sanada on his plane construction. While working, Koishi stops by to drop off lunch for Mr. Sanada and sees Kei. Taking a break, they discuss their standing with Kei avoiding telling her that he doesn’t love her. At this time Marie has been looking for Kei (as ordered by Mizuho) and appears suddenly by Koishi scaring her into Kei… which of course would be the exact moment that Mizuho arrives. After giving the teacher mandated talk to 2 students in an inappropriate situation, Kei and Koishi head out of the school (which Maho witnesses and becomes enraged in thinking that Kei is knowingly hurting her sister).

Maho then transports Kei to another dimension, one which she intends to leave him in, after she tries to kill him. After a few unsuccessful attempts to blow him up, she verbally confronts Kei by saying that Mizuho could never be happy with him – causing Kei into another standstill. While Kei was out, Mizuho arrives and helps Kei out from his standstill. With it being evident to Maho, the mother and daughter agree that Kei and Mizuho love each other and agree to leave (but not before Maho gives Kei a kiss).

This volume of Please Teacher was an excellent disc. A must have.
