SD Gundam Force Volume 03: Heroes United (DVD)

Box Description:

Meet the Gundam Force, a team of Gundams and one boy that defend Neotopia from the evil Dark Axis. There’s Captain Gundam, a superior combat machine; Zero the Winged Knight, a valiant warrior capable of wielding magic; Bakunetsumaru, a Samurai Gundam; and Shute, a young boy who has joined the fight to protect his home.

Now, the Gundam Force has received a new Instructor in Gunbike, a gruff, tough guy who is going to whip the team into shape. And if that wasn’t enough, Zero must contend with the fact that his homeland has fallen to the Dark Axis. Bakunetsumaru, meanwhile, wants to return to his home, which is also under attack by the Dark Axis. But there is still evil to fight in Neotopia, and the Gundam Force must be ever vigilant if they are to succeed.

Another disc of SD Gundam wackiness… well, not so much wackiness, as surreallity.

Episode 07: Go! Gunbike!

The Gundam Force team has been successful because of its powerful individuals, but in there lies the problem: power individuals, not team members. The team is visited by Captain Gundam’s instructor who has had his AI transferred into a motorcycle and is now called Gunbike. Before Gunbike can whip the team into shape, Grappler Gouf has a new plan – he attaches control spikes to a pair of train engines (running in series) and plans to take them into void space. With the train taken over,

the Gundam Force deploys but is having a difficult time defeating the enemies as they have a hard time working in cramped quarters and interfere with each other.

Although Captain Gundam is able to close the gate by throwing Grappler Gouf through it; the trains are still headed on a crash course into an oil refinery. It takes the entire team working together to stop the train in time and prevent a huge accident.

Episode 08: A Princess, A Cake, and the Winged Knight

Shute decides to visit the bakery where Princess Sayla is preparing a cake for the Mayor’s upcoming birthday. As usual, the Dark Axis arrives to ruin the festivities.

Dom Destroyer arrives with two Zaku units and when his weapons were removed so that his gun locker could be cleaned, he sends the Zaku to find him new weapons. Seeing the nearby bakery, the Zaku head there and subsequently take over the AI there with a control spike.

The AI now turns some of the festive ornaments into weapons, which Dom Destroyer quickly grabs up, and Shute is left trying to save Princess Sayla. Thankfully, Zero arrives to lend a hand but as he summons his sword, Dom knocks him away and collects the weapon. Zero refuses to back down and battles Dom using an egg-beater while Shute climbs to help save Sayla. Seeing Shute get closer to the Princess, the Zaku attack with their petrification weapon and begin turning everything into stone. As the weapons’ effect nears the Princess, the rest of the Gundam Force arrive and help stop the enemy force.

Episode 09: Bakunetsumaru’s Struggle

While Bakunetsumaru argues with Dr. Wood about the reconstruction of the dimensional portal, a team of four Zaku take control of a digging-construction unit. They plan to have the unit dig underneath Neotopia and place a bomb on the unit which will go off underneath the city. When the unit surfaces near Bakunetsumaru and Dr. Wood, they chase after the unit and try and subdue the larger force. Although unsuccessful in stopping the giant foe, they are able to slow it down until Captain Gundam, Shute, and Gunbike can arrive to join the fight.

This disc is definitely more of a children’s show than most anime brought over, especially the humor that appear in each of the episodes. The inclusion of the original omake (short sketches) is a nice touch for the series, but I still insist that the show would have been better if the original Japanese language track was included.
