Episode
23: The Final Plan During a police chase, Dr. Guilty crashed his car into a supermarket to try and avoid capture. However, during the accident he flipped his car and was seriously injured and a nearby Ling-Ling approaches to render aid. At this point, Dr. Guilty takes her hostage and drives off towards his base of operations, using his megamaton ShadowBolt Mk. III to slow down any pursuit. Once Goriki and ShadowBolt Mk I make short work of the latest megamaton, Narutaki and company get to the hideout, and save a groggy Ling-Ling. Unfortunately, Dr. Guilty refused to be taken and he blew up |

his own base with him in it rather than be captured. Back in the city, a series of dangerous attacks have taken place under the control of a bandaged person; who is this person, and more importantly what happened to Ling-Ling?
Episode 24: The Approaching Demon’s Shadow A sense of foreboding is in the air of Steam City (even the villains of the city can feel it) and a series of accidents have started to strike those near Narutaki: the Coffee |

Shop proprietor nearly avoided serious injury from a falling steel beam at a construction site, the Model Shop owner was injured when an unattended truck went through the front of his store, and then Detective Yagami was knocked unconscious when he was summoned to a museum and the section where he was in collapsed beneath him. The series of incidents scares Narutaki enough to try and protect the people he cares about, but before he can get to the hospital, Ling-Ling is shot and subsequently captured by Phantom Knight; and it is repeated to Detective Onigawara. If the seriousness of the situation hadn’t sunk in, it did when he was visiting Doctor Kitmer (for information about a series of explosions that he was investigating) and a megamaton blew up Gina’s bedroom (thankfully while she wasn’t in it). Narutaki is struggling to figure out who Phantom Knight’s next target will be while trying to find his friends that have already been taken. The stress level is unbearable, who will be the next target?
Episode 25: And Then, There Were None The
planned attack on Steam City will be a mass bombing using the Demon
Water that Phantom Knight previously acquired, and the attack is
scheduled for tomorrow and midnight. Although the police have found the
bombs, they cannot disable them and have called for an evacuation of the
city (this information is intercepted by two of the strangest people:
Lang-Lang and the Crimson Scorpion). Narutaki’s world is pretty much
coming down around him, all of his friends are either hurt or kidnapped
and he’s forced to face this foe on his own. After some investigating,
Narutaki discovers that the Phantom Knight’s father was killed by his
parents after the theft of some jewels – which were apparently never
recovered. Phantom Knight claims that they kept them and he wants
revenge on Narutaki because of this; he offers to spare the city if
Narutaki will sacrifice his own life. Narutaki is able to confirm that
his parents hid the jewels, and is once again confronted by the Phantom
Knight; at this point Narutaki is resigned to die, but before Phantom
Knight can kill him, Le Bled arrives and escapes with the detective.
Episode 26: The Imperial Capital Is Waiting For You Phantom
Knight’s megamaton is setting up a series of parabolic dishes
throughout the city to transmit the explosives signal to all bombs, but
Le Bled is going to try and stop this machine using his own megamaton.
Despite all of his talents, Le Bled’s megamaton is eventually
destroyed and he is left in a pile while the machine heads towards
Phantom Knight’s hiding place. Back at the agency, Dr. Maynard has
developed a counter to the Demon Water which will cause it to
crystallize, rendering it inert; however, the Phantom Knight hears this
discovery and strikes the building with a missile trapping the people
inside. So it all comes down to this, Narutaki must get past Phantom
Knight’s megamaton and then figure out a way of stopping the madman.
It’s not going to be easy.
The final disc of Steam Detectives was certainly the most high-intensity of the series, but because of that, the story jumped around often in a disjointed way. I’m not sure if this is because of poor editing or what, but some details were completely skipped over to keep the pace high.
