SD Gundam Force Volume 2: New Allies (DVD)
Now I’ve seen some pretty messed up things in my life thanks to my love-hate relationship with alcohol and the number of concussions that I’ve achieved/suffered (and I’m sure Omni has some absolutely great stories) but I think this is the most messed up thing that I’ve ever seen while lucid. The Gundam franchise is pure money – anything that you put the Gundam name on will sell in Japan (see reference: Char Aznable sneakers for $250 US). Although the saturation isn’t as high in North America, the reverence for this series can be seen in it’s otaku following.

SD
Gundam is the opportunity to showcase a series of Gundam and Zaku
figures as though they were the same size as humans… no I’m not
kidding, that’s the premise. The show has a definite cool factor for
being completely done in computer-generated cel-shading, which looks
freaking awesome. If nothing else, I’ll allow people to recreate
episodes with all of the SD models that they have collected in their
rooms. It’s definitely trippy the first time that you see the
“mouth” of a Gundam move as they talk, but the party value of this
disc may make it worthwhile by itself. |

Episode
04: Attack the Enemy Musai! Captain
Gundam and Zero are engaging Zakus that are attacking in the open, when
a trap is sprung on our heroes. They are now drastically outnumbered and
captured thanks to the Rubber Cannon (fired by Grappler Goof), which
captures the heroes in a giant rubber ball. Shoot sees this happen and
follows the villains as they take the Gundams into the alternate
dimension where the Dark Axis ship is stationed. Shoot manages to save
Zero and the Captain and the trio escape.
Episode
05: Gundam Force, Team Up! Shoot
is made a member of the SD Gundam Force as a partner to Captain Gundam,
and immediately the team is sent out to help defend the Dimensional
Transport Device that the SDGF is working on to allow attacks on the
Dark Axis. The Dimensional Transport Device is attacked by the same crew
but this time with God Destroyer who carries an immense arsenal with
him. Even with Zero showing up to help even the odds, the heroes are
severely outnumbered and outmatched until a Samurai Gundam appears in
the sky. Quickly joining the fight, the Samurai dispatches numerous
enemies but is saved from serious injury from a God Destroyer sneak
attack by Captain Gundam. After defeating all remaining enemies, Shoot
invites the newcomer to join the team.
Episode
06: The Blazing Samurai Comes to Neotopia The
new Samurai Gundam is checking out the park in Neotopia, investigating
all of the people there while looking for a connection to the Dark Axis.
His antics cause the Captain and Zero to intervene and try to keep the
peace; that is until the Dark Axis arrive and take control of a 50 foot
tall robot/Ferris wheel to attack the Gundam Force.
This
series is definitely geared towards younger viewers, but that doesn’t
mean that older viewers won't appreciate it. It’s important to
note that this release doesn’t include the Japanese language track,
which of course will rub some people the wrong way.

it's your sister. Mom just gave me your old room. Uhh... do you still
want this Leif Garrett poster?” - Margo (The Critic)
