Those Who Hunt Elves

Volume 1

Those Who Hunt Elves is a comedy/action show where the premise is that three completely different characters are brought into a “Tolkien-esque” world by mistake and are trying to return home. Did I mention that they have to strip elves? That’s the big selling point in this series. What basically happened is that the high Elven priestess Celcia cast a spell to defeat an enemy which ended up bringing the trio (along with a T-74 tank) into her world. While trying to cast a return spell, Celcia was disrupted and the spell was fragmented into 5 pieces and appeared on the bodies of elves. Let the stripping commence!

The three characters are Junpei (the prototypical strongman, powerful individual with a warriors’ honor but the tact of a sledgehammer), Ritsuko (school girl and weapons master – official keeper of the Tank), and the supposedly famous actress Airi (the “brains” of the team – she balances her good looks and acting abilities into some semblance of being the unofficial leader of the team). After the 1st episode, Celcia joins up with the group as a dog in order to hide her influence from the

general populace. (I guess that no leader would want to be remembered as the one who sanctioned the whole stripping of all female elves program.) It gets better; the tank eventually becomes possessed by a demon cat and is renamed “Mike” (which is why my friends claim that I like this series, the thought of a tank named after me is a visceral thrill).

The episodes themselves are quite balanced – each episode follows its own rhythm and consequently unfolds in a different way:

Episode 01: A small town is being constantly ransacked by a group of pirates (all of whom happen to be fish or aquatic animals) and Those Who Hunt Elves intervene. They're ultimatum: to stop the pirate attack in exchange for examining the town elf.

Episode 02: A walled town has been suffering under the constant barrage of the Dark Elf and her band of thieves. Enter Those Who Hunt Elves to stop the attack, and try to examine the Dark Elf.

Episode 03: The Police Chief. A town has been recently besieged by hordes of un-dead skeletons who have been pillaging and setting bombs to maximize carnage. Those Who Hunt Elves offer to stop the villains in exchange for examining the female police chief.

Episode 04: The Warrior Elf. A town’s martial arts experts have been defeated en masse lately, all by a female elf intent on destroying her opponents. Enter Junpei and Those Who Hunt Elves to stop the violence by kicking ass. The victor looks at the opponent naked.

Episode 05: The Demon. A town is being over-run by a friendly demon who possesses stuffed animals and then lovingly rampages through the town destroying things. After some hilarious carnage, the Demon possesses a stuffed dog that Ritsuko falls in love with (not that way you, sicko!) and eventually possesses the Tank.

Episode 06: Celcia’s Apprentice. The elves are becoming un-settled with the stories of humiliation of female elves across the land. Deciding to combat the problem, Celcia’s apprentice plans to stop the stripping at the source, namely Those Who Hunt Elves.

The series is recommended only for people 13 and older, with only minor instances of nudity (despite the main theme of the story) and some violence (which is cartoonish in nature as opposed to graphic). The series is very funny and enjoyable to watch.
