Wolf's Rain Volume 7: Final Encounters (DVD)
Will
paradise destroy the world?
Jaguara’s
attempt to open a false paradise has been defeated, but her actions may
still destroy the world! As the remaining wolves and humans flee the
collapsing castle, they see death and destruction all around them. Cher,
Hubb, and Quent all make it out alive, and so do all the wolves,
although some of them have been injured badly.
But
Kiba and the others are not the only ones who have escaped. Darcia, too,
has survived and now that Jaguara is out of the way, he intends to open
the true Paradise and remake the world. As his humanity, and his sanity,
slip away, he will come face-to-face with Kiba and the other for one
final battle. It’s man against man and wolf against wolf in a battle
to the death, and at the heart of it all is Cheza and her ability to
open paradise.
The
final four episodes of Wolf’s Rain will leave you shocked and amazed!
Hige
and Kiba are certainly not in the best shape after their battle with
Jaguara, and now that they are also carrying a not at her best Cheeza,
things could be better. Now that the “pack” has increased in size,
there’s nothing left but to head towards Paradise. But what does
Darcia have in mind? Final disc. Go!
Episode 27: Where the Soul Goes The destruction of the city has left anarchy to sweep the population – the police are grabbing what valuables they can and making a run for the outskirts of the city. The wolves return to the place where Hige promised to meet up with Blue, only to find that she has left. The last of Hige’s strength leaves him, as he can’t believe that Blue didn’t wait for him. The pack decides to continue anyways, with Kiba helping Hige and Tsume carrying Cheeza. Blue is slowly walking with the still injured hunter, but his injuries are slowing him down and sapping his consciousness and so Blue is reduced to carrying his prone body. Hubb and Cher are slowly walking across the plains until they stumble across one of the police transports with all the men having killed one another over their stolen goods. Taking the car, the group begins to travel until they come across an exhausted Blue and unconscious Hunter. Cher provides what medical assistance she can, and the group decides to travel together.
Just as Hige cannot travel any further and collapses from his injuries, Blue sees the pack and runs from the transport to them. Seeing Blue, Hige’s strength has returned and the pack decides to travel with the humans. All of the humans and Cheeza will |

travel in the transport while the wolves will run alongside. The end of the world seems to be starting in earnest – the number of meteor crashes has started to increase and while the transport is traveling at a good clip an earthquake opens up a ravine and Hubb is forced to swerve. The transport flips from the sudden turn, and all of the humans are thrown around; as the people are being taken from the turned transport, Cher hands Hubb the tired Cheeza and as he walks away, the ravine opens further and the transport falls with Cher. |

Running to Cher’s side, he is able to have a few last words before she succumbs to her injuries. Deciding to continue the journey, he flips the transport back over and states that he will remain with the wolves as they travel to Paradise.
Episode 28: Gunshot of Remorse Things aren’t going particularly well, the traveling isn’t helping the seriously hurt Hunter who begins convulsing from the wear of the journey. Hubb rushes to the cabin to try and help the man, but he is unsure of what to do and it ends up taking the help of Cheeza to save him. Able to continue, the group is able to pull the last life out of the transport before it breaks and the group must continue on foot. Once the group has set up camp for the night, the Hunter finally regains consciousness and finally sees who is in the group. He is extremely upset to find that he’s in the presence of wolves other than Blue and tells her that she is no longer his dog and storms off. Hubb rushes off after the Hunter, while Hige runs to the upset Blue. Hige and Blue talk about their plans – both believe that they are unworthy to enter Paradise, Blue because she is a half-breed wolf and Hige because of how he was brainwashed by Jaguara. Blue insists that she will remain by Hige, no matter what, and that they should run away together.
For
the Hunter who is walking away from the pack, Hubb is trying to talk him
down but his discussion gets him nothing more than a rifle butt to the
skull. Continuing to run away, Toboe catches up with him and tries to
convince him to return but the Hunter still refuses. Back at base camp,
Kiba and Tsume are tending to Cheeza when they sense the appearance of
Darcia whose arrival is announced with a nearby meteor crash that lands
right next to Hubb (whose safety we are really unsure of). Darcia
appears in front of the Hunter and claims that he is unworthy of
continuing; but the Hunter will not be stood down by any man and he
draws his rifle on the opponent. The slowed reflexes of the Hunter are
no match for the quicker man and his shot is first, but instead of
hitting the other man, Toboe jumps in front and takes the bullet. The
stunned Hunter can’t believe that the young wolf would save him and as
he kneels over his body, Darcia fires a 2nd shot.
Episode 29: High Tide, High Time The 2nd shot does not reach its’ mark as Toboe rises
once again and bites the arm of Darcia. However, Darcia states that he
cannot feel pain anymore and shrugs off Toboe’s attack and throws him
away before shooting the Hunter through the chest. The grievously hurt
Toboe crawls towards the Hunter and lays his head on his arm before
dying. At this point, the Hunter realizes that it was Toboe who had
saved him after Darcia’s previous attack. Darcia begins to stalk Hubb
and as he is choking him, Kiba arrives and gets him to withdraw.
The remaining group agrees to press on, but Tsume lingers behind for a moment to give a eulogy for Toboe and even tells him how he got the cross-scar on his chest. He is sorry about losing the youngster, but continues on nonetheless. As the group begins to climb the mountain towards the entrance to Paradise, Hubb begins to slow. The altitude is taking a toll on his ability to breathe and he is finding the climbing to be very difficult. Once the mountain path becomes shear, he is unable to keep up with the group at all and eventually falls to his death. The rest of the pack finally nears the summit, only to see Darcia waiting for them in wolf form.
Episode 30: Wolf’s Rain I won’t give any analysis of the last episode, so you’re just
going to have to watch it yourself.
This last disc of Wolf’s Rain left me with mixed feelings, the production values of the series were always high but the tempo of the story telling left me disappointed and even bored at times despite the action and plot twists that would show up. I wouldn’t say that the series was bad or good, just mediocre and can’t say that I will watch the series again. After seeing the plot line once, it doesn’t really require a second watching to get the depth of the story as everything stayed on the surface for the most part.
