Up to this point, the dominant console each generation has been gray.  Will this always be the case?

The Gray System

While the history of the gaming industry is relatively young in the grand history of the world it has already developed its share of myths and legends. There’s the Backward Level in Super Mario Bros., the Tengen edition of Tetris for the NES, the Konami Code, Sega’s Twinstick Controllers, and the Zen-like breathing techniques used to prevent hyperventilation when blowing the dust off of old console games so to play them. However there is one legend that has risen to epic proportions, that being the success of gray consoles. After shaking loose the 70s sensibility of the wood paneled console gray consoles have become the dominating force in gaming.

not gray). Could this mean that the gaming industry is about to come to a crashing halt like it did in the early 80s? No gray could indeed mean trouble.

Microsoft should definitely take heed of this. It’s not the most powerful system that wins, it’s the gray system. Heck, they don’t even need to release any specs for their system to the press, they just have to send a two word email reading "It’s gray". That’s it. No more need be said. It’ll be a lock for them with those two magic words.

But hold your horses there people! What’s the predominant color of PCs? Yup! Gray! While many are claiming that PC gaming is dying they’re forgetting THE most important thing, that these units are gray.

Mark my words. It won’t be the system with the best advertising campaign, nor the system with the largest stable of third party developers. The system that will dominate over the next 4 or 5 years will be the gray system. Don’t fight it. It’ll happen. You’ll see. So who wants pie?
