E3 2002: Best of Gameboy Advance

As Chosen by Doug Flowe

Golden Sun: The Lost Age (shown at Nintendo Press Conference)

Release: November 12th

Quickly continuing the legacy, Nintendo has Golden Sun 2 for GBA coming in November this year. Just like the first installment, the games main characters will have special powers that help them make their way through the game. If the clever usage of these powers in the first game is any indication, we’re in for some interesting game play with updated graphics and scaling capabilities. The original cast returns and unfortunately the same stale "must retrieve stolen powerful, planet destroying artifacts" story line remains intact. Either way, this is one to look out for on the GBA with many more Djinn to collect and a bigger emphasis on the use of psynergy to progress through the game.

Legend of Zelda GBA

December 9th

By Christmas this year Zelda will be a four-player game in the new game "Four Swords". The cart also includes the SNES Zelda title, "A Link to the Past". Mixing elements of teamwork and competition, in "Four Swords" players will link up their GBA’s to play through traditional Zelda action with a couple of friends. There are a variety of new game play elements like dash attacks, pushing and pulling and throwing bombs. This is a no-brainer for Nintendo fans.

Metroid: Fusion

November 18

Yeah, Nintendo keeps regurgitating the same series but if they weren’t so ridiculously solid, we would have stopped tolerating it long ago. In Metroid: Fusion, Samus is attacked and fused with a parasitic lifeform called creature "X". Thus begins your new hand-held GBA mission. As a 2D-action game, Fusion should recapture the same things we all loved about the old Metroid games.
