Great Games for Busy People:

PC Titles

(Compiled by Mark Leung)

Grand Theft Auto III / Grand Theft Auto: Vice City / Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Without a doubt, in my opinion, some of the best video games to have ever been put to disc, Rockstar's trilogy of mayhem is a crowning achievement in playability. The open endedness allows you to sit down and play for a solid couple of hours, or just for a few minutes. My favorite thing to do if I only have a few minutes is to try to steal a tank. The trick is to cause as much mayhem as possible by taking down cops and civilians until the Army is called in to take care of you. Once the Army arrives, it can be tricky, but with some luck, you can steal your own tank!

Unreal Tournament 2004

If you only have 20 minutes to spare, UT2004 is still a great title for some quick FPS action. With the recent Battlefield 2 craze, the online community may be a little thinner than usual, however, for some quick and dirty fragging, UT2004 still gets the job done. There's tons of variety in the gameplay types and if you can't play online, there is still the single player mode which is decent enough if you are only looking to kill a few minutes.

Hitman: Codename 47 / Hitman: Silent Assassin / Hitman: Contracts

Maybe it's only my sadistic nature that makes me recommend these, however, I assume that busy people likely have a lot of steam to blow off and playing games can be a great way of letting this out. The single short missions in the Hitman series

have a lot of replay value if you have a little imagination. For instance, I like to try to and play through certain missions with the goal of eliminating everyone with only a knife. Or in some cases, I'll not allow myself to use a disguise and force myself to get through the mission in the Hitman's original suit. With just a few minutes to kill, the Hitman series serves up some great quick killing fun for those of you with some pent up anguish.

Top Spin Tennis

While most sports games are fairly intuitive to play, some of the newer titles are getting to be more complicated and not quite so easy to pick up and play. While originally developed for Xbox, Top Spin is still fairly simple, but it is still great for bashing out a few quick sets. With the possibility to get more involved and to go deeper into the career mode, this is one sports title that can be learned quickly, with the possibility to develop mastery over a much longer period of time.
