Great Games for Busy People

PlayStation 2 Titles

(Compiled by Mr. Nash)

Katamari Damacy

Who would have thought that rolling stuff into a giant ball could be so much fun?  That’s exactly what players do in this game, going around gardens, houses, cities, and such, trying to get more and more stuff rolled into a giant ball so that the King of All Cosmos can transform it into a star to light up the night sky.  It’s really quite astounding just how friendly Katamari Damacy is to those looking for a game that they can enjoy 20 minutes at a time.  Rolling up balls of stuff while listening to some amazingly cheerful music, and enjoying a strange, strange story is extremely fun.

Rez

This game is all about enjoying music and light.  It’s a musical take on the classic shoot ‘em up, where the point is to enjoy the experience and manipulate the music far more than it is to race to the end of the game.  Just going through a single level and enjoying the experience can be both exciting and soothing all at once.  Beware if you don’t like electronic music, however.  About the only major downside to Rez is that the game is very difficult to find at retail these days.

Do you like the idea of 2D fighting games with pretty visuals, and old school heavy metal blaring in the background?  If so, Guilty Gear X2 is a game to consider.  With 20 characters to choose from, a ton of game modes, and a very robust selection of moves available, this game will keep gamers quite entertained.  This is a highly recommended title for those looking for a game that can keep someone busy for a

quick 20-minute session.  Make sure not to mix this game up with Guilty Gear X Isuka, though, as Isuka tries to change the formula of the series a bit, but just winds up botching things up.

Gran Turismo 4

It’s pretty difficult to go wrong with a racing game when looking for a fun way to kill a little bit of time, and Gran Turismo 4 is one of the best titles on the PS2 for this.  It leans more

toward the simulation side of things in terms of car handling, and performance tweaking, and has a ton of tracks to zip around.  It’s quite easy to hop into GT4 for a little bit, run a few races, and call it a day.  One of the nicest features of the game that busy people will appreciate is that players can temporarily step out of more involved championship series, and continue them later.  This works out great is your schedule catches up with you and you need to get back to business all of a sudden.
