While not earth shattering, hearing that a new Command and Conquer game was in the works came as welcome news in 2006.  Recently, most sequels that have been announced have been foregone conclusions that there wouldn’t be a huge wait for a new installment to be announced.  In the case of C&C, there were more question marks.  It had been a few years since a genuine sequel had come out, with only expansions and spin offs available to keep fans busy.  Even then, it had been some time since anything of note baring the Command and Conquer name had come out.

So far what is known about the game has been a tidal wave of good news for fans of the series: Kane is back, many of the key people behind the series are working on the game, and the series is getting a major facelift as it heads into the future.  From what we can see so far, it looks like EA is very much trying to walk the line between nostalgia and modernizing the series.

We’re still quite a ways off from seeing Command and Conquer III’s release, but simply knowing that the game is in the works came as very good news indeed in 2006.
