The Top Ten Game News Stories of 2006

It has been a busy year in the game industry in 2006. Not only have gamers had the chance to enjoy the run-up to the launches of the Nintendo Wii and PlayStation 3, but there have been a host of major game announcements, the death of E3, squabbles, and revelations that all made headlines.

In this article, the Armchair Empire has chosen the its picks for the top ten news stories of the year. Instead of slicing apart each headline into tiny entries, we have chosen to look at overall story arcs as events unfolded. For example, one could pluck out a number of individual headlines that cropped up as the PS3 neared launch and used them for a top ten. However, this often times risks splitting hairs on the stories. As such, it makes much more sense to look at the bigger picture for some of the events that made the news, as it brings far more context to the matter.

That being said, let's begin this look back at 2006 with Number 10 in our list.
