LEGO Star Wars II Q&AConducted by Mr. Nash
March 7, 2006
Last year gamers got a pleasant surprise in the form of LEGO Star Wars. It was a quirky, offbeat take on the popular franchise. What made the game particularly successful was that it appealed to people both young and old, something that you don't see so often in videogames. Now LucasArts has announced a sequel, and we had the chance to pick the brain of Jeffrey Gullett, Assistant Producer for LEGO Star Wars II, about this upcoming game.
Why
did you decide on the original Star Wars trilogy as the setting for this
game?
It seemed only natural to set the second game in the Original Trilogy timeframe, as this era follows the progression of time from the first game. Also, everybody loves the Original Trilogy characters and story, so it seemed an obvious choice to bring all of the LEGO humor and fun to those movies.
How many vehicles and animals are planned for the game? Can you give us any examples as to some of the ones that the development team are considering including?
We don’t have an exact number at this point, but rest assured, if you saw it in the movies, it’s most likely in the game someplace. Some of the things you can expect to see include Luke’s landspeeder, tauntauns, speeder bikes, X-wings, TIE Fighters, and of course the Millennium Falcon, just to name a few.
There were quite a bit of puzzle solving in the first LEGO Star Wars. Will we see much of this in the sequel? |

Puzzle solving is definitely a big part of LEGO Star Wars II. This time around, you can expect to find a whole new crop of puzzles that we’re aiming to make more dynamic and complex, without necessarily making them more difficult. We want to make the puzzles more interactive and offer more things for the player to do, especially when playing co-op with another player.

Being able to customize a character is a great way to re-create what LEGO is all about. How far will the customization abilities go? Are we just looking at swapping arms and such or are we going to be able to create our own figures and paste our faces on them?
Well, you won’t be able to paste your own face on a LEGO character, but there are literally millions of combinations that you will be able to use. Almost every piece from every character in the game will be available to swap!
