Metal Gear Solid Walkman
There are many aspects of the Metal Gear Solid W Series Walkman that I like.
Installation and dragging and dropping files onto to the unit is extremely quick and easy; the simple buttons and controls on the headset are easy to activate; the unit stays firmly in place during heavy physical movement (like running); the sound is good; and recharge time is very short.
But all of that comes at the expense of looking like Lobot, Jr.
Remember Lobot? Last seen in The Force Unleashed but more famously known for his appearance in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Lobot is this guy:
The W Series isn’t quite as unwieldy and unattractive as Lobot’s wrap-around computer interface, but the similarity is too strong to ignore. It made me think twice about going out in public wearing the W Series if the sun was still up or I was going |

to the gym.
Around the house – folding laundry, washing the deck, and cleaning the bathrooms – the W Series is a great thing to be wearing to listen to music or a podcast. Not having a wire from the MP3 player to a separate set of headphones, means much more mobility.

the headset then attach the magnetic ends of the head set. It forms a “heart” of sorts that you can then hang on a key rack or and other handy hook.
Because this is the Metal Gear Solid camo-themed W Series Walkman, the unit comes with a handful of MGS music tracks. This is definitely targeted specifically at Metal Gear Solid fans, but if you just want something that looks a little different than the solid, and therefore much more visible, version, there’s nothing stopping you from just deleting the MGS tracks.
I just wish it had an FM radio and a fast-forward button (rather than just a “skip” button) for those long podcasts, but otherwise it’s a complete unit.
The limited edition MGS W Series Walkman is available for $59.99US.
