It’s not very often that I get a weird vibe from a press release. The one in question is the official announcement of “Destiny” coming from Bungie and Activision. I’ll let you read it in a minute, but there are a few things you might want watch for, besides the fact it’s a sci-fi shooter.
There’s an explicit mention of the game being shipped on a physical disc. This is no download-only title. Hell, in the very next paragraph there’s a quote from a GameStop exec about how excited they are for Destiny.
Also, the release goes to great lengths to avoid the use of the term, “MMO,” which has all manner of connotations, including “monthly subscription,” but not to worry, Destiny will be “a living social universe filled with other players” and “a world with wide boundaries that allows you to roam and explore. It is a world where, even in story mode, you could encounter other players on their own adventures.” But apparently not an MMO.
