“Gears of War 3″ to Arrive Sept.20/11

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

Microsoft has announced that Gears of War 3 is set for a “worldwide launch” on September 20, 2011.  (For some reason, Japan gets it September 22, 2011.)

Pegged as a “glorious conclusion to one of the most memorable sagas in video games’ history” Gears of war 3 picks-up 18-months after the events in Gears of War 2.

The aspect that grabs my attention the most is four player co-op in the campaign, but Epic Games is obviously putting a lot of resources behins the multiplayer experience with :

  • New multiplayer game modes including ‘Beast Mode’ – offering a new twist to the game where you take on the role of the locust horde and their assorted variations!
  • New maps including: Trenches which features an impressive sand storm that reduces your visibility, as well as Overpass, Mercy, Checkout, and Thrashball.

“Red Faction: Armageddon” Set for May 31, 2011

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Today THQ and Volition announced that Red Faction: Armageddon is set for release May 31, 2011, just three months from now (and right before E3 in Los Angeles).

Being developed for PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, “Red Faction: Armageddon expands on the critically acclaimed science-fiction franchise, building on the events of Red Faction: Guerrilla as well as the upcoming Syfy live-action movie, Red Faction: Origins. As destruction expert Darius Mason, your journey will take you from the frozen poles to the molten core of Mars as you wage war against the Red Faction’s greatest enemy yet. Built on the groundbreaking Geo-Mod 2.0 destruction engine, players can take advantage of total environmental destruction, collapsing huge Martian structures on their enemies. Rebuild all that you destroy with the Nano-Forge’s incredible repair ability, creating new gameplay scenarios never before possible.”

“Bulletstorm” Arrives

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

With scads of positive reviews already, Bulletstorm arrives in store today for PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360. This “explosive, irreverent” first-person shooter with a “pulp sci-fi single-player campaign”  and “relentless multiplayer modes” looks like a worthy follow-up to the developer People Can Fly’s Painkiller, though much more over-the-top.

Also announced was DLC for the Spring and the fact that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of  Bulletstorm will be using “a one-time-use Online Pass registration code that gives players access to six bonus Echo maps and the exclusive Quicksilver leash” for people that buy the game from retail. Buy it used and there’s a $10 fee to gain access to this content.

And for those that grab the Xbox 360 version should know that the Bulletstorm “Epic Edition” “grants players early access to the Gears of War 3 beta. (Gamers will need the Epic Edition disc in order to play the Gears of War 3 beta.)”

Galactus Confirmed for “Marvel vs. Capcom 3″

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

Normally I don’t post a screenshot as “News” unless there’s some information that goes along with it, but in the case of Galactus, I’ll make an exception.

Oh wait, there is some information! Galactus is the final boss of Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. Hopefully that didn’t fill up your brain.

The game is scheduled for release February 15, 2011.

“The Darkness II” Announced

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

Today 2K Games announced that Digital Extremes (of Dark Sector fame, among other titles) is working on “The Darkness II” a sequel to the 2007 original.

Touting something called “quad-wielding combat” which “will allow players to slash, grab, and throw objects and enemies with their Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons,” a visual style that’s “hand-painted graphic noir,” and the comic book writing talents of Paul Jenkins, The Darkness II is scheduled for a late 2011 launch (for PC, PS3, Xbox 360).
