Nintendo to Charge for Some Online Games
At a talk at GDC, Nintendo’s Takashi Aoyama has stated that his company is looking at charging people money to play certain online games via a service that they are calling “Pay-andPlay”.
“Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Pay And Play” will let users subscribe on a game-by-game basis to certain titles. Nintendo project leader Takashi Aoyama announced the service at GDC, but did not say what upcoming games would require payment for the service, or how much they would cost.
This doesn’t look good, especially in light of how Nintendo has traditionally said that online gaming should be free. Does this mean they have a slew of MMORPGs in the works? Somehow we doubt it.
