Astro
Boy: Secret of the Atom Heart
Growing
up, finding anime on TV was a rare surprise.During my childhood Transformers, G.I.Joe, and the like were the
order of the day, but there was the occasional anime series that did
make it to the airwaves, like Robotech, Star Blazers, and of course
Astro Boy.Astro Boy was
always a fun little romp when it came on every Sunday for me, seeing how
the pint-sized robot boy would take on all manner of gigantic evildoer. To this day, the series has managed to maintain a certain level
of retro hipness for those familiar with it.Now the series is receiving an installment on the Gameboy Advance
in the form of a side-scrolling action game thanks to Sega and Treasure
with Astro Boy: Secret of the Atom Heart.
That’s
right folks, I said Treasure.It’s
been a while since we’ve seen the company make a full-fledged
side-scrolling action title, as they’ve largely favored games of the
shooter variety in recent years with games like Radiant Silvergun,
Ikaruga, and Bangai-O being of particular note.Probably Treasure’s last high-profile action game was Gunstar
Heroes for the Sega Genesis.Whatever
the case, considering the pedigree of the developer, Astro Boy seems to
be in good hands on the GBA.
The
game is intended to be a very straightforward, lighthearted romp as
Astro Boy takes on legions of enemies on-screen, harking back to action
games of old.Players will
have an attack button, a jump button, and a couple of high-powered
attacks to take on the bad guys with and that’s it, keeping things
simple and to the point.All
of this will happen with bright colors flashing on-screen and some very
cute robot designs leading the charge.
There’s
no word on whether or not we’ll see Astro Boy: Secret of the Atom
Heart come to North America at this time, and with the hit and miss
track record for Treasure’s games being released on these shores
it’s anyone’s guess whether an English localized version will ever
come to be.However, the
developer does have a good reputation and we still see their games
coming our way now and then so hopefully we’ll see this one in North
America as well with time.
