Collapse
Of
all the different sci-fi based threats facing this world, it seems that
invaders from another dimension are the most underestimated of the
bunch. They always pop up
out of nowhere in some sort of non-descript portal, and wreck havoc on
everyone and everything unfortunate enough to be near them when they
appear. Earth can be prepared for the paranormal and beings from
beyond the stars, but once inter-dimensional baddies step onto the scene
all planning goes right out the window.
This is more or less what happens in Collapse, a new action adventure game in the works for the PC. In 2096, the world is invaded by creatures from another dimension that quickly lay waste to the land. Fast-forward one hundred years, and the world is in ruin with a small group of powerful, not to mention tyrannical, humans managing to hold the inter-dimensional beasts at bay. It is this chaotic world that gamers will find themselves in while playing Collapse.

The whole thing will play out as a third person action title, with an over-the-shoulder camera perspective. Instead of being a straight-ahead run-and-gun affair, Collapse will feature a deeper, combo-oriented combat system. How this will play out exactly remains to be seen given that the game walks the line between the use of firearms, |

fisticuffs,
and melee weapons. Moreover, the combos will be performed by mouse and
keyboard, which could prove an interesting change of pace from doing so
on a standard gamepad.
While
the combat looks to be venturing off the beaten path, the environments
and characters appear to be highly detailed, and more in line with
common video game conventions. There
will be extensive motion capture performed for all of the moves of
players’ characters. Meanwhile,
Collapse will also feature a robust physics engine, and competent AI.
Inter-dimensional
beasts, and power hungry megalomaniacs with a private army at their
disposal are always a pain in the butt.
PC gamers will be able to lock horns with these bastards later
this year.
