So, it looks like Maxis and EA have decided to revisit Spore. After all the hype leading up to the game, the critical acclaim, and, ultimately, seeing it become the most pirated game of all time, one may be tempted to think they'd want to wash their hands of it forever, but not so. Not a sequel by any means, but instead centering on the creature creation that was at the core of Spore, Darkspore is an action RPG set in a scifi setting.

In some far flung corner of the galaxy there was a species that called themselves the Crogenitors. They had a nack for genetic manipulation, and created all sorts of unusual creatures to do their bidding. Unfortunately this lead to a particularly nasty type of being coming into existence, the Darkspore. These beings would force their genetic code onto other species, turning them into Darkspore as well, and over time they took over large swaths of the galaxy.

That in mind, players take on the roll of a Crogenitor survivor who must now find a way to defeat the Darkspore before they take over the entire galaxy. Ironically, this involves creating yet more creatures to fight them (fight fire with fire, or potentially opening the door for another dangerous species to come in be). This will be the crux of what the game is all about, as players try to dream up

new creatures that they can send out to go smash the Darkspore, as it uses a modified version of the creature creator from Spore.

Combat will consist of both cooperative multiplayer and solo play, as well as there being a PvP combat arena for players to face off with their creatures. However, there's still a ton that we don't know about the game seeing as it has only been announced recently. However, it's due out next year, so it shouldn't be too long before more about the game comes to light.

Spore was a very good game, so there's a lot to of potential in this title. Hopefully Darkspore will prove to be equally as fun when all is said and done.
