Far CryImagine
a tropical paradise filled with brightly colored animals, sunsets
resting over the horizon, and the sound of a bullet piercing through
your chest. Welcome to Far Cry. Developed by CryTek Studios and
published by Ubi Soft, Far Cry is slowly gaining attention for its
beautiful and vibrant graphics, as well as technological advancements.
One of the top games at E3, Ubi Soft showcased a game not traditional to
its character. With Far Cry, Ubi Soft has trailed away from the previous
stealthy titles they’ve released, and are ready to unleash a gaming
experience filled with action-packed levels where stealth will end up
getting you killed. The
story revolves around Jack Carver, an ex-marine who is offered a job by
a news reporter, vaguely named Valerie, to escort her to an exotic
island nothing short of paradise. She begins to take pictures of a
secret military base on the island, when attacked from an unknown
creature. Unexpectedly they find themselves under attack from a
mysterious militia sprawling onto the island. With all of their
possessions and only boat destroyed, Jack must fight his way off the
island by any means necessary. |

What we can expect, other then the already stellar graphics, is fast-paced gameplay similar to Unreal II. Almost all levels with consist of solo tactics (which means you won’t have your friendly AI cronies alongside of you), and rely on surprising enemy forces. You will traverse through bright and scenic missions filled with an overwhelming number of enemies; to dark and gloomy sewage systems filled with hidden enemies in shadows and flickering lights, which is where the graphics truly shine.

Since
the whole game will be played on an isolated island, the world will have
an 800-meter view scale system. In other words, you won’t have to
stare into a photorealistic background image, rather a real-time shot of
the island. This will create as much depth we’ve ever seen in a game
environment; as well as a diverse range of tactics that will make use of
this feature. You can utilize hills and snipe from long distances, or
unleash fury in the traditional “up-close” method. This years holiday season will be jam-packed full of goodies, and Far Cry should remain (if not already there) on the top of that list. One of the top games of E3, as well as one of the fan favorites, Far Cry will achieve new heights in First-Person dynamics, as well as stun us with its graphical achievement. Far Cry is due out Q4 2003. -
