Like wearing chaps and a ten-gallon hat?  Well, then Greenwood Entertainment has a little ol’ game from Germany that may be of interest to you.  Taking control of a ranch, players will be put into the old west to raise cattle herds, grow crops, and hopefully build a ranching empire that would make the Cartwrights blush.

The game is set to be predominantly of the economic strategy sort, setting a name for yourself in cattle country.  Players will need to concern themselves with a vast majority of the different functions that need to be tended to on the ranch.  Taking care of the cattle will be the top priority, and consequently so will taking care of the cowboys who must have lodgings, time to rest and go to the saloon, because if they aren’t happy they’ll just up and leave, then you’re up a creek and things will get complicated real fast.  There’s also the matter of

heading to town for supplies, recruiting new cowboys, and talking to the sheriff, so there’s a local economy that players must be aware of when building their own wealth.

With the game taking place in the old west what one has to wonder is how the morale of the era, or more accurately the lack there of, will play into the game.  While the title’s developers haven’t really commented on it yet, it would be hard to imagine those times without bandits, bank robbers, cattle thieves, and every other type of bad guy around then.  The only thing we know for sure is that bribery can be worked into business deals in order to get what you want.

There’s also mention of there being non-strategy elements in Far West, but again, no specifics.  In the very least, this is a title to keep an eye on if for no other reason than almost nobody ever tries to make a game that takes place in this period, and when such a game does come along it usually doesn’t take it seriously.
