Frontline
Nation
Fans
of turn-based strategy games have a new PC title to keep an eye on
courtesy of recently formed Swedish developer Colossai Studios called
Frontline Nation.Players
will have all the tools of modern warfare at their disposal as they vie
for control of a highly destabilized Europe.
Usually
when people think of Europe, an image of a very progressive collection
of cultures springs to mind.It’s
a part of the world where people usually look for non-violent means by
which to get things done.In
Frontline Nation, however, Europe appears to being going down a similar
path as it did at the start of the twentieth century, allowing ruthless, power hungry dictators to climb to power, where nationalism and
militarism reign supreme.As
such, players will take control of one of these nations and attempt to
bring the whole of Europe under their control.
The
means to do this will take place in two different modes, one strategic,
and the other tactical.The
strategic mode is where players will handle the day-to-day and
month-to-month operations of their country, focusing on things like
resource harvesting, manufacturing,
diplomacy,
and building up their war machine. The tactical side of the game is where players get down to the
nitty-gritty of combat.Here
the game presents the action in hexagonal maps, allowing players to issue
orders to their various units on the battlefield as they attempt to
achieve victory in one campaign after the next.
Colossai
is promising quite a bit of options for players to choose from including
over twenty different types of military units (no word yet on
nation-specific units), 45 countries to play as, and a Europe consisting
of 500 regions, with 90 cities.

Players
will have more than the barrel of a gun at their disposal as they endeavor
to conquer Europe in Frontline Nation. They can also use diplomacy, a network of spies, and highly
skilled Special Forces units, not to mention weapons research, in order
to pave their way to victory. When
not playing against the computer, gamers will also being able to compete
against others via online play, which will support up to nine players at
a time in concurrent and classical modes, as well as a hot seat
multiplayer mode for those sharing the same computer.
There
has been a steady demand for turn-based strategy games on the PC for
years and years.Fans of
the genre can be extremely picky as to what they want in such games.Frontline Nation appears to be trying to give strategy gamers
quite a bit to chew on.
