Hard Truck: Apocalyptic Wars

Remember the 1970s sci-fi flick Damnation Alley?  For those who don't, it starred George Peppard, as he and his band of post apocalyptic merry men drove through countless bombed out cities in a huge, heavily armored truck.  Looking at Hard Truck: Apocalyptic Wars from Targem, it would appear that the developers may be fans of this little known movie from the 70s, as this game, too, has players driving around a post apocalyptic world in a huge armored truck, blowing things up, and trying to save what's left of the world.

Despite the use of a well-armed truck and a post apocalyptic world, there really aren’t any other comparisons that can be made to the classic movie, which is a good thing given how cheesy the film was.  Where comparisons can be made is with games like Bandits: Phoenix Rising, where driving a car while shooting things up took center stage.  Hard Truck will have quite a bit of driving around, and getting into high-speed firefights, all while players try to collect money so that they can keep on upgrading the weapons, armor, and systems on their ride.

As far as plot is concerned, civilization as we know it came to a crashing halt due to some sort of mysterious accident.  Over the two centuries that followed, a good-sized chunk of the human race died off, and those that survived were charged with the task of rebuilding the earth.  Of course, with the collapse of the world as we know it left the door wide open for criminals to take a large piece of the pie, and seize control.  This is where the big, armored

trucks come into play, as players have to drive their vehicle in search of the hidden secrets of the fallen civilization in an attempt to get Earth back on its feet, and destroy the mobsters that have been profiting at everyone else’s expense.

Looking at the visuals for the game so far, it’s nice to see a developer that wants to make a post apocalyptic world that isn’t nothing but shades of brown.  In Hard Truck there will be plenty of grasslands, lakes, trees, and other foliage ready to bring a more colorful world to players than what is normally seen in end of the world scenarios in gaming.

When people hop behind the wheel of a vehicle in PC games the title is almost guaranteed to be a racer, and there just aren’t many games out there that have tried to take driving in a different direction on the platform in recent years.  Hopefully Hard Truck will give gamers looking for a combination of driving, and blasting the tar out of everything something to look forward to.
