Homeworld
2
When
Homeworld was released it stood out as an example of just how well a
totally 3D strategy game could work.
There had been a few games that went the 3 dimensional polygonal
route before, but since Homeworld took place in outer space players
could truly navigate in any direction, making for some very involved
space combat. With some
amazing visuals (wasn’t it fun zooming into those tiny little ships
taking a closer look at them?), and well laid out, intuitive controls it
was easy to get hooked on the game.
Now a few years later we have a sequel on its way.
So without further ado, here’s the facts. Features: -
Epic story continuing the saga of the Hiigarans in Homeworld. -
Story driven missions culminating in a fully-integrated gameplay
experience. |
|
|
-
New 3D engine that renders breathtaking graphics of outer space and
intricate details of every ship in the fleet.. -
All new fleets, each with unique abilities and craft, for different
styles of play. -
Command fleets of imposing capital ships and nimble strikecraft amidst
nebulas and space debris. - Carry your fleet from mission to mission using Homeworld2’s unique persistent fleets.

-
Streamlined user interface enhances
the ease of use and the gameplay experience. -
Multiplayer play with room for 6 via LAN, network, or Internet
connections -
Comes with support for tools to create your own content, including new
Homeworld 2 multiplayer maps. -
Game engine written specifically to support customization and community
modification. With
the first game having fabulous visuals, the new graphics engine for
Homeworld 2 already looks like it will blow its predecessor’s
presentation out of the water with pretty lighting effects, more
detailed ships, and a mix of gorgeous celestial bodies to give players
plenty to look at. Also
of note is that, like the original, Homeworld 2 will allow for community
mods of the game so those inclined can make their own unique Homeworld
creations. The level of
customization available in the first Homeworld was truly staggering, if
Relic can outdo themselves in this regard for the sequel the results
could be downright frightening. But
at the end of the day, Relic’s greatest hurdle in making this sequel
is living up to the huge, and potential outrageously inflated,
expectations of fans of the first Homeworld.
It’s been quite some time since the first game, and development
on the sequel has been underway for a while now, so hopefully Homeworld
2 will reside on our hard drives just as long, if not longer than the
original. -
