Hybrid
When
it comes to first person shooters on the PC, gamers can hardly walk two
steps without tripping over one of these games.
Apparently unafraid to take on the legions of competition, Vulcan
Software is working on one such title of their own called Hybrid. At this point, the plot for Hybrid follows a freighter lieutenant named Marek Hale, who is ordered to investigate while a mining colony on one of Neptune’s moons has been out of contact with Earth for the last three months. Upon entering orbit, Marek’s ship is attacked by an unknown alien vessel, which would help to explain why happened to the colony.

So far, Hybrid is looking like a fairly straightforward FPS, but with a “The Bionic Man” sensibility: faster, stronger, better / “We can build it. We have the technology.” And apparently in the case of this game, said technology is Vulcan’s new proprietary 3D engine, called Mother3D. Judging from the very few images available for hybrid thus far, the graphics are looking pretty good with some interesting use of color, and general art direction. However, until more is made available about the game, namely how enemies and more of the environments look, it’s really to early to get overly excited about the presentation in the game. |

Looking
at what is known about Hybrid up to this point, it won’t be an easy
task for Vulcan to create a game that can stand toe-to-toe with the
juggernauts of the FPS genre. In
the very least, though, it appears the developer is up to the challenge
with their drive to make something that improves upon the genre. Mr.
