When
I attended the European Computer Technology Show (ECTS to the rest of
us) in London in August, one show stand I endeavored to visit was Oxygen
Interactive.Having previously received an invitation form them to do so,
manners dictate that it would be rude of me not to take up the offer. So I did, and one of the various goodies I discovered there was
the up and coming FPS title “March! Offworld Recon”.
2003
has witnessed the growing proverbial maze of gaming titles, and just
before you thought you couldn’t take it anymore, Oxygen interactive
and developer HBM bring us the next offering of FPS gaming.March! Offworld recon, due to be released in Europe in October
(no release date for the US and Asia) takes on the familiar and popular
first person shooter format, following on from the success of Unreal 2
and even as far back as Goldeneye and Quake.
March!
Off world recon follows a simple but potentially thrilling storyline.Based around the post-colonization of Mars, where humanity had
faced numerous difficulties. One by one, all of the colonists decide that it would be wise to
abandon the planet and move on to other worlds. The only industries that remain on mars are the automatic and
top-secret military research centers.
The
story continues, it would therefore seem impossible that the abandoned
red planet could ever attract the attention of mankind ever again. However, this is where it gets creepy, the

Martian satellite
control system starts to report strange data to earth, and soon after
that all communication with the satellites circling mars is lost. The government then wisely decides to send an investigation team
to the red planet, which you happen to be in.The investigation then turns out to be a battle to stay alive.
The
press release informs me that “March! Offworld recon is a genuine
combination of FPS, arcade and tactical simulation. You will lead your team of fearless armour-clad warriors through
atmospheric Martian environments in a battle against countless cyborg
enemies.Spectacular 3D graphics, stunning visual and sound effects, the
most intense action – all this will ensure great fun playing.”Well, do bear in mind that all this remains to be seen, seem to
good to be true? Well only time shall tell.
If
the Pre-release game shots are anything to go by, then we may be in for
a real treat of first person gaming, check them out and make your own
decision!
