Space Colony

Firefly Studios is well-know for it's Stronghold games and now they're mixing it up with a Space Quest / Sim City hybrid (with a dash or two of Red Dwarf and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy). But let's take a look at the facts:

Space the final frontier… not anymore. In Space Colony you will explore and colonize new worlds with the same sense of familiarity of popping in your local coffee shop for a skinny decaf latte.

Space Colony is best described as a People Sim meets a City Builder. The player manages and nurtures a group of dysfunctional space dwellers colonizing the most unearthly corners of the galaxy.

Make no mistake, none of the 20 colonists you’ll meet were ever on a NASA shortlist. Ahhh, welcome to life beyond the stars. It’s everything the brochure said. So what if half the staff is

brawling, the Harvester Robot is chain sawing its way through the oxygen supply and small furry aliens have taken over the disco? This is home!

Space Colony comes from Firefly Studios, the creative force behind the million selling Stronghold series. Creating the pressure cooker environment with emotions flying around, where else could you find a Norwegian biker who can’t live without disco, a gym instructor operating a nuclear reactor and a geriatric in charge of base defense?

Manage your own space community of up to 20 unique personalities. They brawl, argue, get depressed, go crazy and fall in love. If the colony is to survive YOU need to get them to work together.

Be transported to other worlds, explore them and establish footholds as you play across an immersive 24 mission story. Each twist of the plot has its own goal, ‘Rescue’, ‘DNA extraction’, ‘Eradicate’ ‘Tourism’, heck even space chickens have their part to play up there!

Manage and improve the daily life of your crew. Oxygen, power and food are vital …but there are many ways to support your people. From bars to saunas, ‘Robo psychotherapy’ to a detention pod, you have over a 100 buildings to meet the needs of your varied and dysfunctional team.

Use the many robots and androids at your disposal to establish profitable extraction industries and hi-tech factories. Use bioresearch to ‘Green’ the planet and establish a golf course at the galaxies first 10star hotel!

Watch as over 20 alien species, hunt, socialize and just get on with their weird and varied daily lives. Then allocate power to your force fields as they turn many eyes on you!

Compete with alien outfits for the planets many valuable resources – out mine them, out trade them, out think them!

Explore the heavens in Galaxy Mode or build the biggest colony in the Sandbox section. Create worlds for you and yours friends to explore in a fully featured map and scenario editor.

Space Colony sounds like it'll be right up my alley. Whacked-out sci-fi strategy game? I'm there. And it will be short wait as Space Colony has already gone gold -- watch for it to hit retail late this month.
