God of War III
One of the series to emerge from the last generation of consoles, and carve itself a very dedicated following has to be God of War. After wowing gamers on the PS2 for its last two iterations, God of War III is set to hit its climax on the PlayStation 3 sporting even better graphics, more ways to rip enemies limb from limb, and possibly even give us some closure in the series’ protagonist’s quest for vengeance.
When we last saw Kratos, he was leading an army of titans to assault Mount Olympus, and take the fight directly to the gods that have been the source of all his problems. By the looks of things in the trailers, this appears to be exactly what we can expect when things get started in God of War III. Perhaps this will be the final showdown between Kratos and the gods (then again, this could go on for so long as Sony finds the series to be profitable).

With the series making its way onto a new platform, players can expect heaps of new gameplay elements, as the developers are looking to incorporate all sorts of new things to do while playing God of War III. One of the most interesting is that some levels of the game will take place on the backs of moving titans. These giant creatures are moving about as they scale |

Mount Olympus, so that means the orientation of their bodies, and as such the ground Kratos and all of his enemies is walking on, will change depending on what the titan is doing. At times the ground might be perfectly level, but then the titan starts to move around, and players will find the earth beneath them has shifted 90 degrees.
While the last game gave players a lot of weapons to choose from for fighting with, their controls differed somewhat from weapon to weapon. In God of War III, the developers want to streamline this by having the control schemes stay similar for each weapon, but have the results be different.
Players will also be able to use some of the larger enemies as impromptu mounts, swinging onto their backs, sinking Kratos’ hooks into the beast, and forcing them to move around, and possibly take a few swings at the enemies around them. So far, it appears we’ll be able to ride around on a Cyclops and a harpy, but it seems a safe bet that there’ll be more creatures to hop aboard in the final game.
One thing that players will notice in combat for God of War III, is that they are fighting a lot more enemies at once than previous instalments. The scale of battles has definitely been ramped up for this game. Helping to up the ante even more for these fights is that in some cases these hordes of enemies will have a commander telling them what to do, and their behaviour will differ compared to when there is no commander on the field.
There still isn’t any firm release date for God of War III, so your guess is as good as the next person’s. If I was going to take a stab at when we can expect it out, I’d say Q4 2009.
