Dead to Rights: Reckoning

If there’s anything that stands out about the Dead to Rights games, it’s the over-the-top violence the game has from time to time as players take control of cop Jack Slate, and put the hurt on bad guys stupid enough to get in his way.  Now, after a couple of releases on the home consoles, Namco is bringing the Dead to Rights series to the PSP with Dead to Rights: Reckoning.

In Reckoning, players have to rescue a key informant who has gone missing, and is presumed kidnapped by a high ranking crime lord, named Whisper, for whom the informant has information on that could put him away for a long, long time.  With that, Jack and his dog, Shadow, have to scour the streets of Grant City and find the informant, and hopefully not face down in a river.

From what can be seen of Reckoning thus far, it looks like the game isn’t trying to re-invent the wheel, instead simply trying to provide a by the numbers Dead to Rights game for Sony’s handheld.  There’ll be plenty of stuff to shoot, a fair share of stylized slow motion segments, some new weapons and disarms, basically all of the tweaks that one expects from a new installment in a game series.

For those looking to indiscriminately blast the crap out thugs while on a road trip (and not get

arrested for it), Dead to Rights: Reckoning is currently set for a Summer 2005 release.  With action games having fairly strong pick-up and play characteristics, hopefully Reckoning will prove a worthwhile addition to the PSP library.
