Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

No matter what message board you go to, (even non-gaming related), you will always see somebody with a username that has a reference to either Cloud Strife or Sephiroth. These RPG icons are from a game called Final Fantasy VII. You know, the RPG back in 1997 that made RPGs big in North America?  Well, almost a decade later, Square-Enix announces the upcoming Crisis-Core (CC) Final Fantasy VII game for the PSP. This game takes place before the events of Final Fantasy VII and will star a young SOLDIER named Zack.

Even though Cloud is not the star of CC, the game will be a real treat for FFVII fans. For those who may have forgotten, Zack could very well be the reason why Cloud Strife is as popular today as he was back when the original game was first released. Let me refresh your memory; throughout FFVII, we saw Cloud as your clichéd anime style badass with an attitude to match. He was an ex-SOLDIER, not to mention first class. Long story short, it turns out Cloud never made it into SOLDIER and is one of the most intriguing gaming icons to date.  Cloud’s best

friend, Zack, did make it into SOLDIER, and before his untimely death (due to trying to protect Cloud), Zack had relayed all his experiences to Cloud.  In his current mental state, Cloud inadvertently amalgamated Zak’s life as a soldier with his own personal experiences.  In fact, Cloud became a part of Zak. Although Zack

had very minor screen time within the game, he played an integral role leading to one of the bigger, if not the biggest, character plot-twists in a videogame. It didn’t take long for Zack to attain popularity and FFVII fans are eager for a game starring Zack.

Square Enix is going all out with their compilation of FFVII with sequels and prequels. Nomura himself said that CC will not play like a traditional RPG, but rather play out as an action RPG so we can see what it feels like to be a SOLDIER. Keep in mind that SOLDIERs aren’t your ordinary military grunts, they are part of the elite which were strong enough to be injected with Jenova genes to enhance their performance in battle.

CC’s tagline is "A story of three young men and one young woman bound for destiny's core." Nobody is completely sure who these three young men are, but after a lot of fan discussion, it probably refers to Zack, Cloud and maybe Tseng. The young woman is most likely fan favorite Aeris.

Some worthy things to note is that the new character Angeal, who is like a mentor to Zack carries the buster sword. He will most likely pass it down to Zack at some point throughout the game. Another character worth mentioning that drives fangirls crazy is Japanese singer Gackt. He made his first appearance in Dirge of Cerberus FFVII for the PS2. He returns in Crisis Core as the character G which stands for Genesis.

Not much is known about Crisis Core’s gameplay, but look forward to new info soon.
