God of War: Chains of Olympus

After wowing gamers twice on the PlayStation 2, Sony is taking the God of War series to the PSP with a new game that they are calling Chains of Olympus.  By the looks of things, this new installment won’t try to diverge too much from the formula that made the last two games so successful.  There’ll be plenty of wandering around ancient, mythological lands, run-ins with deities, and beating the tar out of enemies, except that this time it’s portable.

With Chains of Olympus, players will be able to learn about Kratos' time in servitude to the Gods of Olympus.  The game takes place ten years prior to that of the other two, so fans can learn just what happened that caused Kratos to have to work for the gods, and how he went about trying to free himself.

For all intent and purposes, it seems that gameplay will remain largely intact for Chains of Olympus.  There won’t be any huge deviations from the variety of moves, magic, and combos.  If anything, the game’s developers will be expanding Kratos’ combat repertoire.  They have already said that they will be adding a fair bit to the combo system for this game.

In the end, though, what he have here is a sequel that is abiding by the mantra that “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”  It makes sense given how well the last two God of War games have done.  The series has proven to be a highlight in the PlayStation 2's library.  If Chains of the Olympus can be at least as good as its predecessors, it shouldn't have much difficulty in enjoying a similar position in the PSP's library.
