Arguably
one of the most entertaining four-player fighting games to ever step
onto the scene, Power Stone will always be an extremely memorable game
among Dreamcast owners.The
controls were as smooth as butter, there were plenty of characters to
choose from, and the whole package dripped of personality. Now Capcom is re-releasing Power Stone 1 and 2 on the PSP via
Power Stone Collection.
First
off, players can expect the typical features that made this series
popular on the Dreamcast.All
of the multiplayer features will be back, largely thanks to the PSP’s
wireless abilities, and players can expect a small army of weapons,
power-ups, and a number of unlockable goodies to fiddle around with.
However,
Capcom will also be adding a bunch of additional features to breath new life
into the games.First,
there will be more of everything, as Power Stone Collection will have a
number of new levels, and weapons available for players to use.
What
looks particularly interesting, though, are the various modes planned
for the game.There’s the
straightforward stuff like Basic mode (simple, with unlimited
continues), Arcade mode (take one character into battle against three
others), and what many will probably be spending a lot of time with:
Adventure mode (collect gold and items, which

can be
crafted into even fancier fare, and used in other game modes later). There will even be a new mode that was never included in the
Dreamcast games: Bomber mode.Here
players duke it out on a field covered with explosives.
Another
thing that will probably make gamers happy is that when in multiplayer
matches, only one PSP actually needs the game UMD for Power Stone
Collection.This will prove
handy for those who don’t like the game enough to actually buy it, but
still want to play with their friend. It could also prove to be a handy piece of viral marketing for
Capcom.
What
will be key in making Power Stone Collection a success is adding enough
new content so that long-time fans of the franchise don’t feel like
there’s nothing special in this game.So far, it looks like Capcom is trying to accomplish this, given
the amount of new items and levels they have planned, not to mention the
game’s Bomber mode.Still,
we have quite a bit of waiting ahead of us before Power Stone Collection
comes out.As it stands,
the game is slated for a Q4 release. While it’s tempting to assume that this release date is
plausible, given that a large part of this game is a port, one never
knows.Hopefully, the wait
won’t be too long, and / or excruciating, though.
