Disgaea: Hour of Darkness

Iíll admit it, I like it when games let you play as the bad guy.  Thereís only so my times I can get on my self-righteous high horse and save the world from yet another supreme evil while exploring my own inner demons.  Being the one out to destroy everything in their path to achieve their ultimate goal, using the naÔve, destroying the stubborn, and crushing any who would dare resist me and in my quest for whatever it is Iím questing for allows for tapping into my guilty pleasures.  It must really be true that itís good to be bad sometimes.

Such is the case with Disgaea: Hour of Darkness.  Here the game takes place in the Netherworld where demons reside and the place is dripping with evil.  The realmís king has recently passed away, and scheming demons have plotted to seize power.  Players will take control of Prince Laharl, the rightful heir to the throne, as they try and take back the Netherworld from those who have come to power.

In the grand scheme of things strategy RPGs  are far and few between in the console market.  They get released fairly regularly in Japan, but when it comes to

Western releases there just arenít that many titles in the genre that hit store shelves.  Disgaea doesnít seem the title that will open wide the flood gates, allowing for a tidal wave of strategy gaming on the consoles, but any further releases in the genre are certainly welcome.  Hopefully Disgaea will also prove to be fun, not just a genral anomaly on the PS2.
