Ghost
in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
A
Ghost In The Shell game. Wow, you’d start with less expectations if
you were planning to make a movie based on Pac-Man (or his better half
Ms. Pac-Man… hmm… note to self, start writing screen play and call
Samuel L. Jackson to star). Back to reality. Any otaku who has seen the
first movie or the TV series knows that the members of Section 9 can
kick some serious ass but most especially the Major (plus she looks
really good in stretchy pants). At this point, Kusanagi and Bateau are
playable and the lovable Tachikoma can be used,
hopefully their
sparkling personalities will also make an appearance). Nothing like
driving around a miniature spider-tank huh?
So
far, the only mainstream sightings of this game have been the trailer
available on the Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex Volume 01 DVD,
and the trailer on-line at the game’s website (not counting the E3
demonstration, ‘cuz most of us didn’t get to go). The two trailers
that are available have both showcased the cutscenes for the game which
look very close to the TV series, but the few interspaced action scenes
showed some very fluid action in a dark surrounding and some nice
explosion coronas and glare.

As
one would expect from a cyber-punk series, computer usage and hacking
will both represent important portions of the game. One demo showed the
ability of our protagonist to “real-time” hack the brain of one of
her attackers, rending the opponent ineffective while she finished off
the remaining crew. I guess there isn’t much more to do than gawk at
these awesome pictures and then wipe up the newly forming pools of
drool…
