Hot Shots Tennis

After winning over golf fans for years, the Hot Shots franchise is expanding into the world of tennis.  Now developer Clap Handz plans to bring the charm, and simplistic approach to sports found in Hot Shots Golf into the aptly titled Hot Shots Tennis, which should be hitting the PlayStation 2 this July.

There will be three modes of play for people to choose from: training mode, fun time tennis, and Hot Shots tennis mode.  As the name implies, training mode shows players the ropes in the game.  Here one is put through a number of drills that teach how to perform the various moves ranging from serves to volleys, and everything in between.

The main portion of the game takes place in fun time tennis mode (Could this possibly be the best name for a mode in a game ever?  Maybe.)  Here one can see the similarities in gameplay between the golf and tennis Hot Shots games.  Just like its golfing counterpart, Hot Shots Tennis starts players out with the choice of two different characters to control, and things pick up

speed from there.  If one wants they can play a fairly straightforward match, but for those seeking something a little different it is possible to implement a number of unique rules to each match.

For those who love to unlock stuff, challenge mode is for you.  Here players will face off against a series of opponents, and with each victory new goodies (courts, outfits, side court judges, etc.) and characters will become available.  It’s very much meant to accommodate all of the completionists out there.

Interestingly enough, the game’s director actually revealed a while ago in a Famitsu interview that Hot Shots Tennis was planned right around the time Hot Shots Golf was being worked on.  It’s just that it took this long for the game to see the light of day.  That being said, this could be the first step in a long series of sports spin-offs in the Hot Shots franchise.
