The
term "epic conflict" is tossed around a lot these days,
although Killzone seems to be fitting the bill quite nicely. You are a
member of the ISA, an organization of planetary colonies that have
banded together for the sake of protection. The bad guys are the
Helghast, a separatist military faction who's all about making your life
(and others) a war torn hell.

With
over 11 levels in total, there's an emphasis on a single player mode,
although Killzone is also focusing largely on multiplayer. Since Sony
was shortsighted enough to not include four controller ports in its
system, the aim is primarily on killing over the Internet, with up to 12
players on a broadband connection. Sony has needed another app besides
Socom and Final Fantasy XI to sell its network adapter, so this might
finally be their chance. Otherwise, only a two player split screen mode
is available.
Due
to its technical prowess, the Xbox has been considered "The
System" for first-person shooters. If Guerilla can make their baby
run smoothly, then Sony gamers will finally have some killing action to
call their own.
