Lupin the Third: Treasure of the Sorcerer King

Get ready for some cel-shaded action with Lupin the Third: Treasure of the Sorcerer King on its way to the Playstation 2. The popular cartoon show on Cartoon Network is going console in 2004, along with his arsenal of weapons, friends, and, of course, sexy women.

Lupin isn’t your common superhero. He’s more like your common thief…in the most uncommon of ways. The name of the game is stealth and Lupin must use his array of disguises and sneaky techniques in order to find his booty. No, not that type of booty, more like 10 million gold coins.

The setting of the game makes Lupin a lot more interesting. Set in an old Eastern-European town filled with castles and cathedrals we can expect some Goth-like color preferences and style. Since most cel-shaded games keep an upbeat style, such as Jet Set Radio Future and Cel Damage, it’s nice to finally experience the entire range of cel-shading, even to the darkest of points.

The style of gameplay is akin to those of classic PC adventure games, with a slight twist. As the game progresses as do the puzzles. Lupin the Third has a delicate system of rewarding

players. Those who remain towards the shadows and draw less attention receive more points than those who run in and shoot everything in sight. The system makes players who truly want a good score think out each situation before relying on nothing else except brute force.

If it’s authenticity you enjoy, you should be happy to know that all the key characters from the show will be featured in his journey and will be voiced by the actual actors themselves. Keep in mind that the game is strictly PG with a lot of puzzle solving and perhaps some mild violence here and there. Fans of the show are sure to have a great time with this adventure out only on the PS2 and available in early February.
