Mega Man X Command Mission

Few game franchises have seen as many incarnations as that of the Mega Man series.  With a little digging you could probably come up with at least 50 different Mega Man games on various systems.  But the funny thing is despite all of these games being made, not even one of them has been an RPG.  To put this in perspective, Capcom sooner made a Mega Man Soccer game before deciding to bring the Blue Bomber to the role-playing genre.  Now that is about to change as Capcom finally brings the series to this genre on the Playstation 2.

From what we know so far of the story line behind the game we’re left with a nebulously ambiguous plot where our hero has to infiltrate an enemy stronghold (in this case Giga City Island) where the Liberion Army has incited a riot leaving Mega Man responsible with the task of restoring order.  Joining him will be Zero, Axle, and four new characters to the Mega Man universe.

What should get console RPG fans attention is Command Mission’s battle system and it’s expectedly kitschy name, in this case, the (cue echoing voice and thunderclaps) Cross Order

System”.  The main feature in this system will be how it shows the order of your party members’ attacks as the battle progresses so that you can plan in advance what types of moves to do as their status changes during combat because of things that speed up or slow down their movement.  Also, attacks will have some action game-esque features where players will have to hit buttons in a certain order or use a power meter to get the most damage possible out of an attack.

Sporting the increasingly popular cel-shading approach to game graphics, players should be able to enjoy quite a bit of eye candy as they make their way through the game.  There is no definitive release date set for North American just yet for Command Mission, but it’s only a matter of time before this new approach to the Mega Man Series makes its way to these shores.
