Soul Calibur III

It looks like Namco’s popular sword-wielding fighting game is going to have at least one more go ‘round on the PlayStation 2, as today the publisher announced that Soul Calibur III is in the works, exclusively for the Sony console.  Players' excuse for running around the countryside, and locking swords with like-minded wayward warriors is that Soul Calibur has been removed from its resting place, and Nightmare is also on the move once more, making for a whole heap of trouble that players will have to stop.

Adding a little something extra to the series’ story mode, players will now have much more control in how they customize their character when going through Soul Calibur III (which appears to be going with the name “Chronicles of the Sword mode” in this installment).  So, instead of taking on the persona of Kilik, or Maxi, or whomever, players can pick their own look, gender, occupation, and weapon for their character.  What this writer wants to know, though, is will anyone be able to make an even more intensely erotic, leather-bound, S&M party throwing character than Voldo…

The other major addition coming to the series this time out is the inclusion of three new characters: Zasalamel (dawning white robes, and a massive scythe), Tira (who looks almost like a forest nymph, and carries a pair of very circular blades), and Setsuka (a geisha-esque lass armed with an umbrella and a small, rapier like blade).  In addition to these new characters, players will be able to cross swords in a variety of new areas, which include a German castle, the top of a clock tower, and an ancient Greek shrine.

Seeing as the game was only announced a scant few hours

ago, there really isn’t a massive amount of information available as of yet.  Namco is staying fairly tight-lipped at the moment, and everything leads to this being a case where we’ll just have to wait until E3 to get a good look at this game.
