Star Ocean: Till the End of Time

If ever there was an appropriate title for a game, this one is certainly it.  From the moment it was announced, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (SO3) was heavily anticipated in Japan while in development (which seemed to take forever), then when the game came out there it was buggy as all hell and a second fixed shipment had to go out.  Now North American gamers are still waiting with baited breath for the title to hit these shores, seeing one delay after the next as the game’s release gets pushed further and further back.  The way things

are going with SO3, you really need to wonder if indeed it won’t be released until somewhere around the end of time.

Bringing back the Star Ocean series’ sci-fi flair, this latest installment takes place about 700 years after the battle against the Ten Wise Men, with the Space Federation exploring deeper and deeper into the cosmos.  The game’s hero, Fate Linegod, starts the game taking his family and old friend Sophia to a resort colony called Hida.  Unfortunately the resort gets attacked by some unknown enemy, and Fate gets separated from everyone.  From there he begins on his quest.

Just from looking at the expected features in the title so far it feels like we may need to brace ourselves for a cliché or two in this game, but the last two entries into the series have really started a good track record in motion for the franchise.  Hopefully Tri-Ace can pull off the hat trick with this latest installment in the series…assuming Square-Enix can ever get the bloody thing out the door…
